Opinion for loader tractor

I would like a tractor with loader to use around my place. I have a Massey Ferguson 30 (industrial 165) without a loader. It has great engine and power steering and has the shuttle shift transmission. All these features would be helpful with a loader. It does not have a pto so I don't use this tractor much now. Should I sell this and buy a tractor with a loader or should I try to find a loader for this tractor. I have limited mechanical experence and don't know what loaders would work. Probably not enough information for any specific trade but just looking for suggustions. thanks, jerry

My experience with loaders on that tractor are two. One is where is the hydraulic fluid pump and what does the loader look like? Since the tractor wasn't designed for a loader (limited internal fluid capacity), the loader probably contains it's own hyd fluid in the pipes and is driven by a hyd pump which is driven by a splined shaft connected to the front of the engines crank shaft inside the pulley that drives the water pump and gen. The loader would be supported at the front of the tractor and in the rear at/on the rear axles. Lots of weight to the loader on the front end components even before you put anything in the bucket.

Two is that the front ends aren't that strong, plus the front tires are narrow and there isn't a lot of room for fat tires to support the added load. I had one where the front axle actually broke (previous owner) and was welded and inverted. Made a mess of the camber/caster thing.

Having BTDT I suggest against it.

If the tractor is an industrial it probably has a very heavy duty front end on it. Since it does not have pto but does have a shuttle shift and PS I'd say it was intended to have a loader. Does it have a high capacity internal pump? If it doesn't no big deal. I'd simply get a loader with it's own reservoir and pump driven off the crankshaft. Any major loader brand will work and you will have a a great loader tractor.

It sounds to me like you have an ideal tractor to put a loader on. Shuttle shift is really nice for a loader. Most industrial tractors were designed to have a loader on them (built heavy duty). You may need to add weight (if not there already) on the rear tires to counter balance the extra weight you will put on the front end. You can fill the tires with the fluid of your choice and/or add wheel weights. If it has 3 pnt, you can just put an implement on to add weight. If you can find a loader that was designed for your particular model tractor, it won't be too terribly hard to mount it. Others might involve modifications/cutting/welding.

I've used an MF30 just like the one in the picture below. They are an excellent loader tractor. They used a front mounted pump and could have the MF34 loader(shown) or the lighter MF32 loader. You could also get them as a backhoe loader. The shuttle shift is real nice for a loader. Maybe you could find a wrecked one with a good loader? A 3165 is an earlier model but almost the same. Mine looks almost exactly like the one in the picture. Mine does have the three point hitch also.

I traded my MF20 with a MF32 loader to the Massey dealer in Danville, VA (Booker Motor Company, 434.822.8341). They might separate. I really liked the loader with the front pump better than the Bushhog loader I have on the replacement MF285 (which runs off the internal hydraulics).
I did lots of heavy lifting with the MF20 and never needed any counterbalance. If it had been a diesel, I would still have it, I was not satisfied with the 3 cyl Perkins gas.

If your 30 has a 3 pt hitch, you can use a blade, box blade or landscaping rake. However, you can't mow (bushhog) or use a post hole digger. Before you invest in a loader, you need to decide how you want to use the tractor.

I have a mf 20 industrial, with a 3 point and an aftermarket loader. A farmhand model 22, older unit but fits the tractor fine, works off the internal hyd system, however you can only use the loader or 3 point at a time. A front pump is the way to go.
