Opinions on wheel rake.

I have a V rake and am thinking about getting an inline wheel rake. If someone has used an inline I would appreciate your opinions.

Inline rakes generally have 7 or 9 wheels. They are on 3 wheels and have a transport width that is not as wide as a V rake. Rake wheels are raised and lowered by hyraulics. Thanks for reply.

I have used both a ten wheel V and a 9 wheel in line the inline is good in thin hay put almost twice as much in windrow the V works good in everything I have a nieghbore that has a 21 wheel V hycapaity rkae it makes big windrows all the time he a can stretch it to catch 32 feet of ground at a time. he usually just puts 2 13 foot swaths together with it though.

I've been using an old 3pt gehl rake only we re woked it to do 2 sinlge windrows at once. We flipped the frame over to get the wheels on the right side then swung it around to match the angle . Had to move it back about 2 ft and then just adjust for width the left rake had to have the frame mounted out side of the originalframe so we welded on some square tube and then mounted it back and out. Cheap at 500.00 dollars and some time about a day to complete. could get pictures if your interested. Best rake I've used yet gentle on the hay also have a V rake works good on second cutting otherwise the hay is to big to go through it the reason for the modification on the other one.

The cheapie 3pt & trailer ones don't have much capacity. I use mine a lot (good in uneven & dich stuff), but sure glad I have the NH basket rake for tough heavy hay & straw.

The better ones where the axle & frame for the wheels is behind the wheels are pretty good. Cost more.

I have 2 5-wheel rakes used then all this year with no problem. You have to know how to set them up for maximum efficiency.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I was thinking the inline could combine windrows easier in thin hay, which is common here this year.
Yes, rotaries make very nice windrows.
