I hate to burst your bubble but while your BN tractor is very nice the paint job is not original. It appears to be a repaint job from at least the mid-40's. It's still a nice tractor, though. Those are not original decals. Mike

Not trying to throw cold water on your tractor because it's still nice. Just trying to be honest for the folks looking on. Mike

...and what hope that the paint left on it protects that metal? C'mon something needs to be done to slow the elements even if she stays inside now, and painting that beauty would be horrible. That oil protects!

Anthony...don't be so defensive...he stated that it is a VERY nice tractor...and pointed out that it is NOT all original...both statments are true and I don't see where any disrespect was intended.
It is nice, I have less than no interest in ever owning or playing with unstyled Johnnies, esp. ones with "kidney killers" on 'em, but I do recognize that they are a part of the JD heritage, and I recognize when something is well preserved and basically original...if I saw that GP at a show, I would have stopped snapped a pic and said "Holy Schnit, that's as original and well preserved as it gets!" If I saw yours at a show I would stop, snap a pick and say "Wow, other than one old repaint and newer decals that is JUST ABOUT as original and well preserved as it gets!" Pete

I didn"t put it on here to have it picked apart and I don"t want to ruin JDChris"s thread I was hoping that we could have some more enjoyment looking at one of the beauties we enjoy

If you put some new paint on them, then you would have something worth looking at. A pile of rust dipped in oil? I'd rather look at an IH.

We get the same results using "MOP & GLOW",Put it in a spray bottle, apply it and BAM!!! Looks like it was slightly oiled, repels dust and DOES give a protective coating, will not yellow! Borrow some from your wife and you will not return it.
Anyone thet would paint a tractor like that is wasting good paint!

Always expect to get "picked apart" when you post something on here. In genaral everyone is pretty nice, but always there are a few who, given the anonimity of the internet will be harsher than they would face to face. And then some folks like to "say what they think" and don"t realize it could be put in a more civil tone even when written.

I prefer a mixture of mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil 50-50 it brightens up the paint and keeps the moisture away.

Both pics are very nice and thanks for putting them on. I commend each for saving them as original as can be. We don't have any control of the past as they set out. All we can do is take them as we find them. Good job and keep on looking.

Chris, its really amazing the original tractors you are able to find. They are only that way ONCE. I miss my 830 I had that was all original too. Dont mind the haters on this site, I get them too, but ya know what? Its your tractor, you paid for it, and if you wanted to paint it lime green and baby poop yellow and post a picture of it, guess what, you can do it! Great Tractors and keep the pics coming!

Both of these are beauties! I would not do a thing to them except haul them to shows and ride them around. Only thing I can think of that would improve their looks would be if they were sitting in my shop! Very Nice.

From what I can tell, I would lean toward the BN has not been repainted, but rather had the decals put on over the original paint as you can still see shades and remains of what looks like a dealer decal on the bottom right flywheel side corner of the hood. If a person really wanted to be picky, it may be possible to remove the newer style decal off of the hood, Myself I would leave it alone. If I had my choice of the BN or the GP, which would I pick?....question of the day!

Gee whiz...this is the kind of treatment I see at another website I frequent. At least there we all agree that refinishing an old gun RUINS the value. Otherwise its a bunch of grumpy old men! By the way in my opinion these tractors are lovely. You paint them and they all look the same.

Anthony, some people are "purist" so if you call something original they point out what isn't "original". That's a great looking BN but in the strictest sense not original.

Thanks for the reply! The fact is the tractor is only ORIGINAL ONCE Just like you said! I can go find a gp any day of the week with a crapy half a-- Paint job and say i have a restored tractor! I could bring this GP to any sale and it WILL BRING MORE MONEY than one with paint unless we are talking a complete nut and bolt restore with a mint paint job! I understand some people cant love originals but the trend seems to be comming on over the last 5-6 years! Well im at it im going to post a couple more pics for everyones enjoyment and if anyone is selling a nice ORIGINAL like MY GP let me know Chris Thanks too all for the responce First is a 620 and a 3 point 2 bottom plow tractor all original 1500 hours! Next is a 1940 AR that may be the Nicest AR left all original For all of you that like paint {EVEN RED} Just finished a complete nut and bolt restore on a farmall A next is a 1946 LI with a ton of options!
