Ohio State Antique Tractor Pullers Association has used Bob Curren our club sled in the past he has always used spikes to stop us in Div. II to Div. III+. By the time the class is ¼ completed the track is like saw dust where Bob puts the spikes down.
At our last pull on 8/7/2011 Bob was asked the simple question of was he going to be using the spikes in Div. II and his response was he had no choice in the matter it happens automatically. This is a bunch of crap. When another member asked him why don’t you use spikes at other pulls? It’s because they make you (Bob Curren) use weights in box and a weight on the sled pan isn’t that right? Which Bob completely denied. When this same member said he had pictures of that not being true Bob responded with “bring them on then”. So I have done just that here it is Bob! There are more where this came from. In the center of the picture located on the pan of Bobs sled you can see the large orange weight because his box had already been filled. This has never been done at Plain City. Also, in the picture you can see a JD Div. II tractor ready to hook.
He responded with using the “F” bomb repeatedly (in front of women and children) and started gathering up his equipment because he said he quit and was going home and did not have to answer these questions. After a few more “F” bombs and calling this member some curse words which forced a swift response, then some members had to plead and beg him to stay and which finally he did. Strange thing he did not use the spikes all day. I even heard one of the members say I thought Bob said the spikes were automatic and he had no choice but to use them. Evidentially Bob’s statement about he had no choice but to use the spikes must not have been true.
In my opinion the pulling sled should not determine who wins a class by using any other devises other than weights. I have heard it said that spikes were put on the sleds to stop modified and V8 tractors no antiques. Last year Bob would place the spikes on pullers up to as much as 12ft difference in the same class starting from the same point. This blows the argument that it’s the same for everybody. There are many members who witnessed this last year. I also understand that Bobs sled has been involved in a few accidents where people were injured and tractors torn up. However, Bob blamed the tractor, the driver or the flagman. I understand those were Div. II and III tractors.
If other clubs don’t allow Bob to use spikes why should OSATPA? Add in the fact that spikes are not safe. That is why other venues do not allow Bob to use the spikes for they have come to the conclusion they are not safe and not fair, I totally agree. I just hope that no one gets injured and the club doesn’t have to battle a lawsuit brought on by Bobs sled. I understand that the club has insurance I just hope its enough because if it is not the members are liable. I believe this has happened before.
Instead of just answering the questions Bob chose to hold the club hostage by saying he was going home. In closing if I was a club hunting for a sled I would not want to experience the stress of having to deal with Bob getting upset because he don’t want to answer questions and him saying he is going home.
In my opinion I feel Bob’s sled is unsafe and in poor mechanical condition. Also, in my opinion Bob needs to realize he is employed by OSATPA not himself. Again this is in my opinion.

what i have heard from the drivers meeting on sunday is that there seems to be alot of finger pointing towards two individuals,it seems to be easy to attack someone when they are not there to defend themselves, sooooooo, lets see if you all have the courage next sunday to stand up and speak when the individuals are present. any way you cut it pulling is suppose to be about the best tractor that day on an even playing field,if you dont have that then its rigged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i have affended anyone in the group then its because you are part of the problem!!!! dont start no sh**, wont be no SH**!!!!!!!!!!

Andy speaks the truth! It costs a lot of money to have any hobby now-days and I want a fair and equal chance when I play. Cheat me once, shame on you. Cheat me twice, shame on me.

Division III and below should not require spikes or drop pans in my opinion. I believe in sled settings and weighted correctly is sufficient in most cases if the sled operator knows what he is doing.

Looks like this club has problems.Nobody likes a cheating sled driver wherever he may be if proven true.Numbers will tell the story of a clubs future. One opinion. Thanks

I hope this club gets there act together on this issue as it sounds. No i dont have a iron in the fire on this, but im in the process of collecting parts for a tractor for next year that i was hoping to pull with this org. If they dont it will be like another sled from southern ohio years ago that was accused of cheating, pullers would come to a pull, see the sled there and turn around and leave. Just my .02
