OT/1999 Cherokee fuel pump

Neighbor has one that ate the pump about 3 months ago. Quit about 2 days ago, no pump noise. 116K miles, 4wd, auto, 4.0L six. No codes. Pump in tank. This one has NO fuel filter, has mesh plastic on intake of pump, also NO "pressure regulator" on/near the fuel rail. On top of the fuel pump assembly there is what "appears" to be a pressure regulator of some type. When holding pressure against the input side(of the regulator) there is very little output. I am taking this to mean that it"s plugged or restricted internally, did I mention you can"t separate this off of the pump assembly housing? Anyone come across this marvel of engineering? Any testing to do? Thanks in advance for any help!

replace pump make sure to clean tank.Your correct thats the regulator and filter on a returnless system

Just put one in a 99 grand, it had a filter, the regulator is in the filter, the filter is rite above the rear axle. I use ONLY Chrysler filters and pumps. They are rite proud of"em but I don"t have the problems associated with aftermarket replacements. I have a new aftermarket replacement filter rite now you can have, The regulator is bad in it tho. It makes it hard to start after it sets for awhile. I would guess i fix haft of the ones that come in with loooooooooooong crank times by replacing the filter with a OEM. The other need a pump. That"s a free tip to y"all cherokee boys when they are rite they will lite lite off. If it enny conciliation the tank is EZ to remove.

david and Hobo, thanks again for the info. He's trying to track down the parts still. It's odd that there is no filter over the axle, it appears to be part of the regulator on top of the pump assembly. Only chrysler knows why I guess. Appreciate the help!
