OT: 8 row JD planter

well i just accuired a jd 7000 8 row planter. well after i bought it i realized that i may have a few narrow gates to try to try and wiggle it through. anyone else got one? if so, how do you get it through gates? i thought about making a trailer sorta like a combine head trailer to back the darned thing up onto but i have no clue as to haow i would make it. any suggestions?

When we bought our 8 row 7000,gates weren't a problem.We soon realized that it would only fit thru one of the doors on our 3 machine sheds.Great planter!!

John Deere made an implement trailer for just this application. I think it was a model 201??? Donahue also made very similar trailer. There are also some aftermarket wing fold kits that might narrow your planter up.

the trailer thing sucks. several companies made an end transport kit 2wheels with a cylinder toward one end and a hitch on the other end. still something of a pain but much faster than the trailer

where can i find this model 201 transport? do you think they would have them on ebay? auctions?

Donahue made them for JD so you can look for eather one. Put a wanted ad in your local farm shopper and you will get calls. They are around and not in to much demand anymore. I have the Donahue brand and really like it. Expect to pay around 1200 to 1300 for a good one with good tires.

They occasionally pop up at auctions or look in the local ag paper. More often appear at consignment sales. I've got one but it is somewhat of a pain to use. The 12 row planter I bought last spring had the end transport which also isn't much fun but is better/more convenient than the JD201. We did pull the planter 130 miles to the home place after it was bought. I use mine for a head carrier.

I assume you're talking about 8 wide if it was 8 narrow just make your gates wider and sneak down the road. When i bought my 8 wide a few years ago it cost about $1000 to have it folded, the outside 2 rows on each side fold forward and he added a mechanism to put slack in the marker cable when you fold it. A local blacksmith did it, he had worked for a company that had folded a lot of them years ago. Lee

get the endwise transport kit frrm a salvage yard. Or better yet get the Kelderman front fold kit that was very common for those units. The donahue trailer idea I would not recommend as they can be challenge sometimes getting them back up on there wheels. I own ten of then and use for hay rack work great for that

It"s a non-issue- widen the gates. Whole lot simpler than getting a trailer to handle the planter. Bought the 8rn in 1980- it"s 20 feet wide, built the shop door at 24 feet to access that.
