Looking at a rusty old 3/4 chevy with a plow, 4wd, 6.2l, Guy wants $975 do you thing its worth it? Drives and runs good, plow works. What are your opinions?

I have a 6.2 diesel in a pickup I retired due to the rust problem. I have not had problems with the pump, but know people who do. Am thinking about spending the money for insurance and plates for this one for summer use as it makes about twice the mileage as my gas burner. So in short, 975 with a plow sounds like a deal as long as you understand it is what many people call a throw away diesel. If not used on regular basis, make sure to use a GOOD diesel conditioner in it. Would recommend Power Service white bottle year around, and red 911 formula as soon as it gets COLD enough to start gelling.

That injection-pump problem was fixed a long time ago. From 1985 and on, the pumps were fine - and any older pumps that failed were supposed to be updated to the newer parts. And, it wasn't just a GM or 6.2 diesel problem - all those Roosamaster/Stanadyne D series pumps had the problem until 1985 - including those on Ford-IH diesel, Deere, Ford, IH, AC farm tractors, etc.

Depends on what you call rusty - and also "running good." If the truck has not been on the road for a long time and is strictly a home-use plow truck - I find them often in the $100-$500 price range here in NY. On the other hand, if it's driven on the road and all the ammenites work - e.g. brakes, electrical, good exhaust system, good tires, etc. - then the price sounds fair.
I recently bought an 82 K10 with 6.2 diesel, 4 speed manual overdrive trans. and a Fisher plow. Runs great but hasn't been legally registered in 10 years. Also very rusty. I traded 50 square bales of hay for it - i.e. $75 worth.
Also recently bought a 91 Surburban with 6.2 diesel and a Western plow from a local school district - runs great but very rusty - paid $225 for it on sealed bid.

i have owned a few of the 6.2s no complaints other than what others said pump, every 60-80 thousand miles the truck with plow is worth that 9 range if it was me id offer him 8 cash & if he says no .. say thanks & have a good day , most times seller will say wait a min. " cash " talks, he will like that money more than truck sittn there rusting more.....

I had to retire my 84' K-10 454 w/4 spd front and rear posi and plow a few years ago. The frame from the top of the rear axle on back turned to rusty dust. This is very common. Old girl is sitting behind the polebarn. I about cried when I parked it, but with gas at 3 bucks a gallon it doesn't hurt so bad now.
