OT AC filter

I was changing my ac filter and got to thinking I never saw a car or truck with a filter, why?

Hummm .! I have a 2002 Crown Victoria and a 2002 dodge Ram. Both still cool and blow good. I can not imagine what my house ac would be if it hadn't been changed since 2002. Do either of my vehicles have a filter?

tacoma service, tech said i needed
the filter changed and i said sure;
yipes, $60 for filter and labor.
Never again, $18 filter and 3 minutes
inside the cab. It was amazingly dirty, wonder if they just showed me another one and not mine as i only had 30k miles on paved roads.

I have changed a few cabin filters in cars. They are FULL of dirt and some won't slide out because of all the dirt.

My 2006 Chevy Impala has cabin filter and change it once a year and it runs $13.00. Easy to change and is change from engine side of fire
wall.

C-vic, g-marq or even the t-car never had a OEM cabin air filter. That year dodge ram doesn't have one either.

Most people don't change them or even know they are there, they either go unnoticed forever or they will have a symptom like, no or poor airflow out the vents.

Dealer said a friend's 2004 Malibu needed a new cabin filter, $200. Auto zone said car has no filter. I took dash apart after watching U tube video.

Auto zone was right, no cabin filter.

I wish my 2005 buick and 2007 GMC had cabin filters.

If I ever buy a new car it will have a cabin filter and dual controls for heat and AC. Passenger is always too warm or too cold.

My 2005 International 5900i had no filter. I bough it two years old. It had dust packed pretty much solid in the evaporator under the passenger seat.

My Impala has dual controls for heat and AC. I like cool air blowing on me while driving and wife likes it warmer so dual controls work great for us. The AC cabin filter on a 06 Impala is hard to find if you have never changed one. You have to remove the hood seal on the right side of fire wall to get to it. I don't buy filters at Auto Zone I use NAPA or Wix and get a 15% discount on every thing I buy.

My neighbors International semi has the evaporator under the passenger seat and it plugs with bees wing every fall and they stop by for me to check their A/C add it always the evaporator plugged.

I like the dual controls on 2007 GMC truck, but no cabin filter. I have to remove the vent covers and wipe out the dirt. Even installed fiberglass filter, but don't think it does that much good.

What a lot of you fellers don't realize is most used car dealers will pull those filters and just toss them when they clean it up. Cuts down on smells and don't cost them
anything to just trash it. All you have to do is call your local dealership parts guy with your vin number and they can tell you if it left the factory with one.

A few years ago I got to wondering about one for my 02 taurus. Pulled it apart and there wasn't one. Was talking to the parts manager while they were doing an oil change
and mentioned i wish the old taurus had that filter. He keyed in the vin and laughed. It had left the factory with one. I ordered one and put it back in.

Geo, if your 2007 GMC truck doesn't have cabin air filter, it's supposed to. Here are three videos that cover 3 different ways that Chevy/GMC had for accessing various year models of cabin air filters. If I'm not mistaken, the first link will cover your truck.

There is a slightly different setup on older GM trucks that are pre-2004 or 2005. I know the earlier trucks used two filters next to each other, while later models use one larger filter. I saw the video of the earlier models last night but have since lost where it was. ....Ah! Here's one. I checked the first video, and the citiot didn't even pull the cover to show the filter!! So whether your model uses 1 filter or two, this last video actually SHOWS where the filter(s) are and how to access:

On my Impala the cabin filter is not taken out through dash it comes out engine side of fire wall on pass. side.
