OT another day,another.....

Another day,another couple of hundred bucks in the hole. Weather warmed up and the snow/manure mix in the feedlots had turned to slush. Thought I'd better get it hauled out while the gettin was good. Loaded one load and backed the loader tractor up in the corner of the feedlot while I took the load out. Came back and it was sitting lop sided. Cattle had grubbed on it and sheared the valve stem off on a loaded rear tire. Repair man can't get here til morning. Oh well,guess I can hang on to my money one more day.

My brother had his cows chew the plug wires off on our farmall A. I will try to make you feel beetter about spending your money. I am going to pay 1,450.00 to have a leak repaired under my house foundation. Stan

Don't you just "love" all the attention your tractor gets from the animals if you make the mistake of leaving it in a pasture or anyplace they can get to it. The wifey was on my case, get the tractor out of the yard, so parked it in the pasture. Ford 5000 diesel.Her two horses have got every wire they could reach unplugged now, and the insulation chewed off the negative battery cable in a small spot. Too cold out to find all the wiring issues, just going to have to live without headlights til it warms up, and start it at the starter solenoid. Guess I need to take a day sometime and move a bunch of her outdoor type yard decorations somewhere, I don't know where, out of the stall in the barn the tractor actually belongs in. Sure wish I could afford a pole barn, if anyone ever hears of one within a days drive of west central Illinois used, let me know. DOUG

I left my truck in my brothers pasture once. His horses used their teeth to peel the paint off the hood.

Imagine that a leaky calcuim tire flat in a cattle yard and no one got sick.

That stuff is not as bad as all think it is.

I had a barrow left over once from a tire change.

Year later went to put it in another tractor and the barrow was empty, all leaked out.

Mowed around it for a summer and never had any dead grass.

I was out in the pasture one day a few years back when my brother drove out to show me a pickup he had just bought. While we were talking, one of the old cows backed up to the rear fender and let loose. They did'nt think much of his new purchase I guess! Had a bull once who would tear the rear view mirrors off the truck if you did'nt watch him. Same brother bought a late 70s Camaro . Nice car but very low to the ground. Was'nt at all suited for our farm driveway. After a month or so, the exhaust system was torn off & the trans. went out. He pushed it over the hill into the back lot with the cows. Came out one morning on his way to work and the cows were using the spoiler on the back to rub their butts on. He was so pleased the cows found a use for the car, since he was still making payments on it!

Ironic part was,I didn't loose any chloride. The stem was right at the top and sitting there in the cold,the tire was stiff enough it didn't squat low enough to loose any. Last Friday,I got the tractor and spreader hung up on the ice in front of the gate,had to leave the same tractor sit there in the feedlot,they tore all the foam off the seat that day.Didn't figure I had anything to loose leaving it there this time. Wrong to the tune of $160.

We've lost a few things to the girls in the cow yard. More than 1 seat, the rubber boots over the tie rod ends, etc. Never had a mad cow rewire though. Atleast not yet.

The only one we leave in the yard for any length of time now is our 165 w/ the loader on it. All the wireing is fairly protected by the loader frame, and the valve stems are so close to the cast centers that the tire guy has a hard time when he's gotta service them.

We do park some of the machinery in the pasture though, and they do a really good job of cleaning the grease off.
