OT Cattle racks on pickups

Any Body use cattle racks that fit on the back of pickups anymore? I have a nice one I got on the back of a nice original 71 chevy 3/4 ton I just bought. I have no idea what they are going for or if I should just cut it down into side boards. Seems a shame to do that.

I've got a real nice pair that my uncle made out of pipe back in the 60s to haul hogs. I don't know what I'll ever do with those either. I used them for a calf pen for a few years,but they've just been leaning against the wall in the tool shed for a good 15 years.

This one is made out of oak and it all there including the rear gate and ramp with sides. Even the red paint is in good shape.

I don't think it is worth very much as a stock rack anymore, but the oak lumber it is built from might have some value to a cabinet maker, or a woodworker. Those racks were built of some pretty good stuff.

Do you know who made them. Iworked for aplace Called Hale Mfg. Back in 1967 that made Cattle Racks . Do you think that yours are made by them?

I bought a oak set a few yrs. back for $10 . Been handy for a calf pen and to plug a hole in the fence in a hurry a few times . I`ve got another set my Dad , uncle and me made to haul sheep . Cant remember the last time I seen somebody hauling animals with them .

Hi Frank, I do belive that is the company the previous owner told me that made it. In Indiana right, possibly near Bloomfield? At least I think he said near there.

I cut a set of wooden ones down & slide them in/out of a 5X8 trailer when I need to haul a few weaners or feeder pigs or the neighbor wants to haul some goats. Works really well & I can still use the small trailer as a flat bed if needed.

Used to be able to watch pickup trucks wonder from the road's shoulder to centerline. Whenever the cattle shifted their weight from one side of the truck to the other.
We used to take a dozen market hogs at a time in the back of a pickup.Loading them into the truck could be a challenge. Later getting them out of the truck wasn't much better.

Bob They where made in Sherman Texas and shipped all over the U.S. Hale Mfg. had stores in just about every state.
