OT- Census Form

After spending who knows how much money to send me (us) a letter last week to tell us they were sending the form this week, it finally arrived. I understand why the census is important (Article I) and I have no problem with the questions about how many people live in a house, what their ages are and a little information about the house. I do not however, see any good reason to want names associated with all that data.

I am on the abundant wing of this forum (few that we are)and even I am a little leary of the government building this kind of a data base and don"t see why it is needed for the census people to do their job. They only need to tell us how many of us there are and where we all live so our politicians can gerrymander the districts to ensure their reign. The reasons to have names and addresses of everyone by age, race, and ethnicity mostly make me nervous.

So, I"m wondering what some of you think about this? I think everyone at my house is named Smith.

I have to agree how many live there and a few things like that and they get mine back. I fill in the least possible since I figure all they need to do to get the rest of the info is check tax stuff etc etc.

My thoughts are : I've paid taxes yearly & have voted from this same address for 43 yrs . They oughta know my name & address by now, so why do I need to tell them again. Their papers got here ok. I'm going to tell them 3 people live here , Me, Myself, & I; that oughta be enough . It's another tactic of the dead suits in DC knowing the where abouts of people for the socialist harrassments we will be getting sooner than expected . Such as gun confiscation & taxing us on our liesure items .We need Gods intervention soon .

Wait, there's more. There is a second form that about 5% of the people will get that asks many more probing questions - like what time do you leave the house for work. Its labelled "American Community Survey". Had I not seen it on the news last night I would have automatically assumed it was a scam.

You want a real PIA, try being a business that gets on the census roles and has to do the equivelent of an extra tax return every year for those *******.

It also amazes me that it is costing over 15 billion dollars to do it. That works out to over $37/person figuring on a legal population of around 400 million citizens.
But probably my figures are wrong since there will probably be at least a hundred million people each, living in Chicago, Boston,San Francisco and Washington DC and about 63 people spread over the rest of the country

Yea - seems to be quite the info collection service. I understand getting a head count, but bothers me to go farther than that. We are supposed to be race insensitive, so howcome they can ask so many questions about race? And so on.

I'm glad to hear that you're finally catching on, at least to a small degree. Come on over to the right just a little. The water's fine. (;>))

I agree with being leery with giving them the info they need to build their database. Who knows what they will use it for. Not that they don't already have it from driver's license, tax forms, etc. But still...
I filled mine out yesterday.
1 person living here.
White
Male
age 56
I answered no other questions.
If they come after me I'll simply tell them I dudn't understand the questions.

I will agree with your answers. That is about all I am going to give. I would even question why they need to know my race. I thought we are now a color blind nation. Stan

they have only been doing this since the 1800s quit being a conspiricy theorist and acting like a dumb nnalert.

Bill-I look at all the water before I decide where to paddle.

My best pal is very conservative and I think that people with strongly held abundant or conservative views agree on 80% of the issues. It"s that dang 20% that keep us so distracted that nothing gets done on the major important work that is the 80%.

Not to mention the majority of the people who just get on the boat and spend their time below decks in the casino instead of wondering where the boat is going and figure someone else is paddleing. (Had to continue the nautical analogy)

I"m also glad that (so far) people have avoided knee jerk ranting and stuck to the topic.-Dave K.

That struck me as odd too, why so many questions on what race living there. Maybe for terrorists? Dont know.

You make it sound so simple. If you're as far left as you claim there is no way in hades that you and I agree on 8 out of 10 issues.

"who knows how much money"

Some one found and posted on the "new OT" in the last week a break down of what each census has cost over the last 50 years or so. It is estimated that this head count will cost $46 (am pretty sure it said) a head. It wasn't too many head counts ago that the cost was in the single digits.

Just be sure when it ask for race you check other and put write in "American" because we have been told over and over that race is not important.

Dave

We are thats why you need to check other and write in "American". MSM has been telling us for over a year now that racial differences have no place in this country.

Dave

I've done a little bit of searching online for family tree info, and have discovered that my great-great-grandfather was a plasterer by trade, according to the 1850 and 1860 census. So they've been asking for name and occupation for at least the last 150 years. I don't really have a lot of problem with providing any of the info I saw on this years census form, except for race. I don't see why anybody needs to know that I'm 1/2 white, 1/2 black, 1/2 asian/Pacific Islander and 1/2 indian.

Ever do any geneaological research? Ever see some of the information from the censuses of the 1800's? Back in the 1800's, the census was collecting names, ages, and occupations of everyone in a household..so it's definitely NOT some modern "conspiracy" to strip away our privacy...at least no moreso than it was 200 years ago.

And back then, they even asked folks their country of origin, if they weren't born here. My 2010 census form doesn't ask me where I was born, so I consider it LESS intrusive than the censuses of 200 years ago.

Its all a radical left wing pinko conspiracy lol, I will only tell them what the US Constitution requires (based on my own researched professional legal opinion) and thats only about 3 answers, and will write in AMERICAN, the nnalert can kiss my grits lol

God Bless yall now and fill in whatever you and your God and conscience and your interpretation of the law requires, thats what I'm doing

John T BSEE, JD Conservative Christian Patriot

Well I filled in no. in household and age because I know them answers but I can honestly say I don't know the answer to race. Oh sure I know a couple a generations back but beyond that I just don"t know. If you go back 10,20 or 100 generations ago I haven't a clue on my race.

I would have agreed with you, but on the envelope is says " YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW"

So I don't want someone drivin up to my place in a darkened out Hum Vee,with black suited men in sun glasses nosin around.

I really do try to follow some of you guys theorys
on this about some kind of a conspiricy. Do you really think that Uncle Sam dosn"t already have all the info on each of you. From Social Security to Military service to Birth records to the IRS etc etc etc. Its all out there without their having to send you another form. I beleive the census is used for just what they say it is. Nothing more nothing less.

Kind of odd that we both agree on what's fact, though. ;o)

BTW, when I was trackin' my family tree, I found, much to my amazement, that I could track all the way back and find my great-great-great-great-grandfather had been a soldier in the US Revolution. (that info came from military pension records, since there was no census at that time) I had always thought my family came to the US in the 19th Century.

I'll fill it out just like it asks the same as I've done since 1960 and my dad did starting in 1930. Hasn't changed anyones lives.
Those of you with a problem doing this will have to put up with visitors and you will give them the information.......believe me.

Yes it says " YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW", but if you notice the address is to Current Resident. So who are they going to arrest. Me or Current Resident? If the Black Suits were to show up I would tell them Current Resident just left.

Well, I don't want to sound like a crook, but they are mailed by by regular mail. Therefore, there is no proof that you did not mail it back, only that maybe they did not get it back.
Under law we are innocent until PROVEN guilty, not ASSUMED guilty.
Another thought, how many people have changed residence, for one reason or another, by the time they collect and input all of the census forms?

I will bet This will go poof:
BIG BROTHER WANTS CONTROL OF EVERY THING;
DID I SAY EVERY THING: BUT I DO NOT NEED ANY BREATHING DOWN MY NECK BUT MY WIFE.

for you doubters out there...

If you touch the form from the government printing office with out gloves on, the inviseable powder will get on your hands and be assorbed through you skin. Then they can track your movements unless you put tin foil on your head.
Also remember not to breathe as you fill out the form so you dont inhale the powder.
Do flip the paper around in your house or on your clothes.

If you do, call me and I will get you some of the nonofficialuncertified unobtainum planetary magnetic itdontmatter fluid to nuetralize it, but you must act real fast before it solidifies. Once it hardens in the cellular level protesynsis, the coagulation cannot be thinned enought for bi-tranglusnosis to work. Therefore cause a servere reaction of the primary bi-ventriculuar subdurmais fintosis mass. This will mean that you have opticalrectumitis for life. And thats not good. Remember there will be a minor cost for the NUPMIF.

If you think that you are telling uncle sam anything on the census form that he doesn't already know about, you are wrong. Go buy a handgun and let them run an instant background check on you through the FBI. All they need is a Social security number and the can tell you anything you want to know about yourself. Last month they told the gun dealer what my wifes middle name was and that she had a CDL drivers license.

I thought the letters last week were a stupid waste of taxpayer's money, especially since my 94 year old mother got two letters, exactly the same.

This Monday, the census form came and I helped Mom fill it out (she has some Alzheimers problems). We filled out all the information except for the phone number. I don't want some bureaucrat calling Mom up and harassing her, as she gets pretty excited and confused these days. If they really want to talk to her, they can look her number up in the phone book.

I can understand a need to count the people of this country every 10 years. But I think that the questions on the form go too far, and I have only seen the "short" form. And I hope the data that is gathered is really secure. A full name and accurate date of birth can allow a search that could lead to all kinds of information that unscrupulous persons could use to really damage a person. In these days of identity theft, we really need to be careful.

Thats me, I just fill it out and send it in. Always have. To me, its not even a consideration to do otherwise.

I'm one of the token liberals around here by most measures; more liberatarian than abundant though but even as a free thinking live and let live liberatarian there are certain things I need to do every so often for the government to minimize the intrusions of them in my business. Namely file my taxes, renew my license plate and operators license, and fill out 10 year and ag census stuff.

The question on home morgage can help some of the big boys that handle the dollars.

My son found a web site, all I can say is WOW, I had no idea. It made my skin crawl. He had randomly chose a neighbor, I felt 99% was none of my business.

Does anyone remember the site for O bomers inageration, and how we could zoom in and see anyone that was there with our home computers? If so please post it, thank You.

My question to you is this---it asks about the person or persons living there on April 1. If you are in an accident and in the hospital you will be counted there. So----why are you folk filling out the census before you know where you will be in April 1? Might be on vacation and away from home, etc.

States they won't give any information to any law enforcement agency or tax collection agency. It doesn't say however that they won't give the information to INS, Homeland Security, CIA, or other. I'm sure we're all sweating that though. Ha.

Census records are indeed a valuable tool for genealogy and I have certainly used my share of them. They are also riddled with flawed information but are still very much a tool to find the info elsewhere.

The fine for failure to complete the form is much different then giving false information. I think I can handle $100 if I don't care to fill in all of the questions.

I tend to think abundant and believe peoples right to privacy is being eroded every day. I also filled my form out and sent it off just today and do not think I disclosed anything on it that the average person couldnt come up with in 10 minutes with internet access.

You have to remember that the mid 1700"s there were the Federalists, and the "Anti" Federalists, who were not always invited to the meetings to form a constitution. So the Federalists were conspiring to not include the Anti Federalists, which resulted in the largest loss of americans in the countrys war history.

If there were three people on this planet, two of them would be conspiring to deprive the other one of animal hides, hunting grounds, available breeding stock, and universal health care.

Throw the dam thing in the trash.
Everyone that drives a car is registered with the state , don't give them more info.

They know everything about you already ..

Guess at 67 I,m old fashion but for the life of me can,t see why anyone would object to filling out the form. What washington money your county gets back is based on this information. There is nothing on that form that the government does not know in about 100 diffrent ways. My 2 cents worth. To each his own..IF I WERE NOT GOING TO FILL OUT AND RETURN I DON,T think I would brag about who knows

Our form came on Monday and I completed it and sent it in as required..They already have your name as it came addressed to us. I watched an interview with a Census Bureau official last week and he was asked why a letter ahead of time to say the form was coming? His answer? It improves the response to the actual form from 6 to 10% overall and actually saves money from having to followup.

We're the same age, and my county is as good as the federal govt when it comes to PI$$ing away money,... why should I want to see them waste even more?

Y'all spent more time bellyaching about the form that you did filling it out!

Hardest questions for me were my wife's birthdate and race. I guessed on the first and just made something up for the second. They didn't list French/Ukrainian-Canuck as one of the options.

Over the years when it became time to apply for Social security or other simiular items the census was the only way to prove an acceptable age for some people. Either there birth was never recorded or if parents had a birth certificate for a child it was long lost when needed or as has been the case as well that the court house that held the records were destroyed along with everything inside. Without the name it could never have helped. Don't like them either and think it is a waste of money now as they already know that information but years ago that was not the case.

What pray tell is "Washington money"? Last I checked the government's only source of funds was you and me brother. You make it sound like the great White Father's gift to us. FYI , they took the flippin money from us in the first place. Common sense would tell you to keep track of who they got it from for later reference when considering how to spend it. Bet if I stop paying they have no trouble finding me without that silly census report. Much of our problems started by excusing the government from exercising common sense. Census is a huge waste of money that we all worked hard to earn. Does the utility company send a form to identify the customers? No . That would be stupid. Thay maintain a list of all customers. I love it when people claim they are saving us money. They aren't saving anything. They are spending it like it's water.

Wifes grandpa was a hard headed dutchman. Refused to fill out his census form. Got himself in some kind of mess over it. I can't remember what they said it cost him. He was bitter about it til he died.

I'm fillin mine out - I ain't afraid of them. They come every ten years, and have been coming for maybe the last 150 or so.

Here's a copy of the 1930 census sheet from an area my folks lived in.

I have to agree. ALL they need to know is what is your address and how many live there. Other than that is none of their business whatsoever. Whether you are white or black or yellow is none of their concern WHATSOEVER.

I think the current form is way to short, I done alot of genealogy resereach over the past few years and have discovered a lot about my past families lives from the census, my favorite is the 1875 kansas ag census by law names are not connected to the data for 70 years . the 1940 census is just now being tracriped to the internet.

I really don't have a problem with the household head count, since that is allowed for in the constitution, but as for the rest of it - IE names? - I see no legal justification for it. I have also heard 3 million households are getting a 38 question "American Survey". I hope one doesn't show up at my house, or I expect I'll be going to jail. No way am I going to answer those questions.

well all those that voted for all the progressives got what they asked for and dont forget this is the first time that an independent office wont be handling the census external_link and Rahm moved it to the white house.

When did they move the White House to Jeffersonville, Indiana? That's the address on my census return envelope.

That 1930 census sheet (the 15th census, by the way) that I posted below has all the family names listed, relationship to the head of household, occupation, veteran info, value of their home and even if they owned a radio set. Around 30 questions in 1930. Unless you're less than ten years old, I think you've seen this before.

Show me the money just like the movie. It's all comes down tooo $$$$$$$$. The round filers will be getting a knock on the door asking the questions you Sh** canned at the tune of 18 bucks per hour.

Just as Dr. Phil say's how is you vote working out for you?

Well, lets see: there's about a zillion outfits on the internet that any moron can access, that will give you information about anyone you care to look at. I got the short form, was mildly put out about answering whether your home is mortgaged or not, but went ahead and answered and mailed it off. Gave them my cell phone number, which is never on, so that shouldn't be too intrusive.
