I ordered two front Raybestos professional grade front brake rotors for my Ford f250 truck. I paid a good price for good stuff. UPS brought them today and on the box says made in china. DH

dont nessasarily mean there junk although that could be the case. are these actual ford parts or after market. could be thats where ford gets them for factory installation in this day and age. might be why your replacing them.

A couple of months ago I had my mom buy some Raybestos brake pads for her Ford 500 that I was going to install from an auto parts store. When she got home, I noticed they were also made in China. I exchanged them.
It doesn't look like it will ever end, does it?

Until we stop buying it they will keep selling it to us and quality will continue to go down. I am guilty myself but will ask the question of where is it made before buy. Seems like it's always more to buy American. Sometimes it's 2or3 x's more. We are our own worst enemy.

do not apreciate the value of a dollar. That
said I called several dealers and got a price.
Answered a few Craigslist adds. Somehow I got
an email with pictures from Shanghai, China.
Do not know about the quality but the new
Chinese AMC that looked like a Van Norman was
1/3 the price of a used one. Go figue. Eventually
our grandchildren will only be able to flip
hamburgers at McDonald's

Problem is some of this stuff is well made.Although I would like to have Starret dial calipers I dont have 110 bucks to spend, but I can find 15 bucks to buy an import.Should I go without the calipers?We are being pounded with big increases in real estate taxes, insurance, fuel prices,food etc.I just bought a new battery for my tractor today that cost double what the last one cost.Should I go with out shoes because I dont have 125 bucks to buy us made shoes.The imports cost 35 bucks.Its going to get worse.

I do not think we have a choice ,all the stuff is made in china!
had to get a belt sander,all that the store carried of all the popular brands where made in china. I asked them after the remaining jobs leave who will be able to buy it? or where was the price difference between american labor and chinese. they said in the companies pocket.
unless everyone slaps or vote the yo yo"s in washington it is over.our kids will suffer.

When and if the truith comes out, we will find that 90% of Toyota's problems, along with problems from other auto makers, will be from COMMUNIST CHINA parts.
I have never owned a Chinese product that wasn't junk!
Two of the biggest problems we have with Communist made products is inferior materials and they are made with child labor.

I've gotten some excellent quality Chinese parts, along with total crap. Many high-end USA companies have Chinese factories build their stuff to USA standards and specs.

Not much different then it was during the invasion of "cheap Japanese crap" during the late 1950s. Now, if you can actually find something made in Japan, it's high-end.

If you can figure out what is good and what is not, there are some great buys to be had from Chinese makers.

Last survey I read - about Toyota - their USA built cars/trucks use more USA sourced parts then GM or Ford. And, I suspect even USA source parts get their steel from Canada or China.

I owned and run crank grinders for 35 yrs. What are you wanting to grind? What capacity do you need ?Stroke & length? I did know where there were some good used machines that you could go & try out to see if they would hold tolerence. What was the shipping on the Chinese machine?Where do you live ? (state) ?

Back when I was at the GM dealer (last year) GM went from alot of Canadian brake parts to China made parts. Price didn't change and some may of went up ? but I bet the profit margin sure went up !

Quailty seemed ok ? but then too so were the China from local parts stores.
Got a surprize once some cheap priced rotors from NAPA were made in USA.

Not to sound smart or anything, but isn't everything made in China these days ? It just about is , so why was that suprising ? I'd been more suprised if it had said made in the USA .

Raybestos indicates asbestos. this causes asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. It is banned in Australia.

Google Wittenoom ,asbestos and Mesothelioma for a short lesson. takes something like 20 years to become apparent.
This was the great building material in Oz in the 50's.they now realize what a bomb it is. I wonder if China has woken up..Or the American importers for that matter.

The GrandAms were notorious for rotor vibration and my wife's car was no exception. I had the rotors turned once under warranty and the pulse was back within a year. I replaced the rotors and pads at 40k miles with China junk - over 50k miles and they are still nice and smooth.

Raybestos is just a brand; one of the oldest brands in the business. There hasn't been asbestos in brake linings for many years.

Should you be concerned that your brake rotors are made in China? Raybestos is putting their name on them, presumably they stand behind the quality of their products. Of course we should all be concerned about the number of manufacturing jobs that have left the country, but it's about twenty years too late to do anything about that.

The products that americans are getting from china are made to american specs. However, that is the problem. They are cheap because they were designed cheap by American engineers and thus low cost. China has a space program and nuclear technology, so in essence that means that they are themselves capable of producing high quality tools and products to support both of those high end technologies. All in all, it means that they build what the market wants, cheap products at a cheap price and if we were willing to pay much higher prices, then they would build much better tools and products. Like was said, they are doing what the market wants to stay in business.

I found out the hard way about Chinese junk. I had a shrimp boat for over 28 years, and always preferred American made hardware. When the China made products started showing up at half the price, the American manufacturers started lowering the quality to reduce the cost. Blocks, shackles and chain became so poor that it was unsafe. I buy American as much as I can today, but it's hard to find much of the time.

They have a nuclear and space program, but do you really think that they have any safeguards in place? So what if they kill 15 or 20 million of their own people, no great loss, no one cares, no damage done, the loss is acceptable, and is far cheaper than making the changes to the technology that would make it safe.

That is why I always get a good laugh when the bleeding heart media makes such a show of concern when a couple of hundred die in an accident in India, or a bus wreck in Mexico that kills 50 or 60, just like killing flies, lots more in the works to replace the dead ones.

I bought brakes yesterday from NAPA, said "made for NAPA, USA". Opened the box and the bag inside said CHINA.

There should be some kind of law about that. To me that is false advertising. I did get a Bendix rear brake drum today. The box said USA but who knows. DH

I spent the day with my 84 yr old Dad today. After we coated his shop roof (it was leaking)we went to the local hardware store that used to be ACE. I picked up some hardware, made in the USA and was looking at some Stanley tools. Guess what, made in China and Mexico. I still look for my tools at yard sales , flea markets and estate sales.

I spec I install 30 sets are so a year,,, at one time used the good USA Bendix rotor,,, least I think made in the US then started having problems so went with the cheaper china rotor and did not have a problem for 5-6 years,,, then it seamed I started having rotor problems again...

My supplier has switched to Wagner Don't know why cuzz I and others were satisfied with Bendix,, Got the standard B>S. when I questioned my supplier,,, guess why the price went up significantly,,, got the B>S. of how much better wags were so what the ell lets give it a shot,,, I and others are very dissatisfied with the wags,,, So on to the next problem...

After the ben/wag switch the cheap rotors are now a issue were they were not when on the Ben cheap rotor program,,, so I switched to the better Wag rotors that to my surprise were made in China and look to have been finished with a hand grinder in someones back yard,,, To date the supposingly wag rotor has not been a issue Tho out of the box look like chit,,, I hope that they are cast from better material than the cheaper rotors...

Asbestos is still used in shoes were it was originally a asbestos shoe.. (Tractor shoes will have asbestos) anytime you see organic I would bet it has asbestos in it,,, its not uncommon to find it used in a Nissan brake pad...

Lawyers have ruined this country,,, sued everyone under the sun and ran off manufacturing then run for president,,, you can not have it both ways,,, make in the USA and deal with the environmental issues are have it made in china and beach about were its made,,, I want to see a lawyer take on china,,, maybe china will starve them to death 8)

It's probably a wise decision that Raybestos stands behind their product and not in front of the vehicle the product is on. Brake drums and rotors used to be cast at the old (1974 vintage) IR foundry across the street from where I work. Now it's just and empty shell with a 'for lease' sign in the front.
I've had several China rotors warp and crack over the years.
