OT e mail help

Okay, heres the deal. I have a local ISP (NOT MSN) and I use Outlook Express POP3 E Mail its NOT web based e mail. Soooooo when Im gonan be in say Texas I wanna get my e mail at my same 10 yr old [email protected] e mail address (Im NOT gonna change it) Ive always had and I dont want it to fill up in my local POP3 Outlook Express box (I think with Outlook Express POP3 my e mails are stored on my own puter NOT the server), just log in n pick it up n delete it same as if I were here at home. Okay, I checked some of these mail.com n other sites where you can supposedly pick up e mail anywhere in the world n I think they would work iffffffffff I had web based e mail but they dont seem to work on my POP3, error messages say something like MSN isnt compatible with POP3 butttttttt Ive had that MSN e mail address for years n it works now as POP3 on my local ISP

QUESTION IS

How am I gonna be able to pick up my regular POP3 e mail on the road n so it dont blow up my puter as full when I return i.e. need to be able to receive n delete n NOT get them all again when I return ????????????????

I plan to take daughters old lap top and it will be set up before we leave using Outlook Express butttttttt thats POP3 via my local ISP remember so I dont know what happens on the road if I try n pick up POP3 outlook express e mail. Again I dont think those fit all e mail program pick up anywhere things will work for my POP3 outlook express address cuz I tried one n got the error message grrrrrrrrrr it refused to let me get to [email protected], but cant swear to that

Hi John...

I too have local ISP with dialup. I can get to my e-mail when I travel by using Internet Explorer to go to the ISP website. I can then log on to webmail using my e-mail addy and password. I can read, delete, or reply to my mail on the ISP server. When I get back home I can then download all the e-mail to my desktop. Might want to have a conversation with your ISP provider and see what is available.

Don't know if this helps but I get e-mail when I'm away from home by logging into my server. They have a link to e-mail, put in user name and password and open mail. There is a box you can check to determine what happens to deleted emails so they don't show up in your inbox when you get home. Might try the help desk at your server, ours is locala nd very helpful about this kind of stuff. Thanks again for all the info you put on the forums, have a good winter in the south.

What mail server do you point your Outlook Express to? The local ISP? Or msn's??

In general, you can log into and receive messages from any POP3 server - no matter where you are in the world.

BUT, you will have to use the local Texas ISP OUTGOING email server, since it is the only one (as far as most local ISP's are configured these days (not counting national systems like Gmail, hotmail, etc)) that will deliver email out for you.

Also, you can create multiple email accounts in Outlook Express and or create multiple identities which allow you to switch... Just a matter of taste in how you want it set up...

When I travel, once connected to the hotel's network, I can download POP email without problems. I despise webmail.

I'm REALLY going to urge you to dump Outlook Express. It and Internet Explorer are tied too closely to the operating system and are vulnerable to attack by those with nefarious intent. Go with Firefox for browsing and Thunderbird for email. Thunderbird allows you to import your Outlook Express address book.

Setup OE on the laptop for your pop3 email and just download it. You can download pop3 email over any connection anywhere in the world as long as the normal settings are made.

If you might want to leave some of the emails on the server when you return home, you can set OE to "leave messages on the server" AND "remove from server when deteted from 'deleted items'"

Another possibility is to call your ISP and have the mail forwarded to your MSN email address.

And there is always webmail if your ISP offers it. Most do now days.

Sending with OE would be the issue. Most ISPs (due to spam) require you to connect to their SMTP server with their connection. The ones that don't, have a SMTP server that you authenticate to like the Pop3.

Check with your ISP. Most of them offer some sort of webmail service that you can access from any computer with a browser. Can"t get to stuff you"ve already downloaded using a mail client, but you can send & read new stuff.

How are you going to connect while on the road. Wireless? If so, I suggest setting up the laptop and then visiting your local library or other wireless hotspot and seeing how it works before you leave.

BTW I do what your attempting to do all the time. Just a manner of getting setup correctly.

Looks like your using bluemarble for your ISP? If so they do have webmail and I would go that route. You can read, respond, and delete msgs from there. And you can leave the msgs you want on the server, so you can retrieve them with your main computer at home.

A lot of newer McDonalds have wireless access point. Have a cup of coffee and check your e-mail over Web Mail if you have it.

I beleive there is a website that allows you to access your computer from any other computer. Advertised on the Bob and Tom show so I will check their site and report back. Cant think of it right now. Should work for ya though.
