A friend of my late Uncle's was a blacksmith.

WAY back, he had a 500 gallon gasoline tank to weld, They steamed it out. He would not let the hired men weld on it, or anyone NEAR the shop while he was welding on it.

All was well until the town pain-in-the-a$$ wandered into the shop, figured out what was going on, and smacked the tank with a large hammer while the blacksmith had his helmet down, welding.

Then, the swearing started!

A local shopper that advertises a lot of auctions once interviewed a bunch of auctineers. One of the interview questions was, "What's the funniest thing that happened to you on an auction?"

One of the auctioneers said that one time they were selling a double barreled 12 guage shotgun, along with other stuff, off of a flatbed. The ringman was holding the shotgun in the air while the auctioneer called the bids. In the middle of it, someone threw a cherry bomb under the flatbed.

The auctioneer said the ringman had to change his pants, and it was ten minutes before everyone was composed enough to continue the auction.

Many years ago when I was stationed in Germany, there was an ALS (Ammunition Loading System) that was jammed up. We were taking it apart in order to remove the ammunition from the drum on it to be turned in. During the unloading process, I was collecting the rounds and putting them in the ammo can while another guy was handcranking them out. Another guy came up, decided he wanted a trophy and grabbed one of the rounds. While we were getting the rounds out, I had my hands in the 20mm rounds and somewhere in the vicinity the security forces troops were playing games and set off a ground burst simulator. The guy I was working with and myself both froze in place...him on the crank and me with my hands full of rounds. After a few seconds we looked at each other and had a laugh about how close that was too reality. While we were recovering the young troop decided to bring the trophy back and put it into the ammo can with the rest of the ammunition.

Isn't 20mm electrically primed? Like carpet static, truck seats and the like? We worked with the 30mm "dragon" for the Gau-8 but it was percussion primed. Still had to be careful with it, but I was under the understanding that 20mm was much more dangerous.

Yes, 20mm is electrically primed...the EA check sheet was used, and everything was grounded including us prior to and during the handling and clearing of the unit.

I was refering to the collector. We always had folks trying to take our 30mm live rounds, cause they are cooler than the spent brass. That had it's own concerns. I could not imagine anyone wanting to take a live 20mm home!

I know of a case where the 1st Sgt and Dorm Manager were doing room inspections and found a live 20mm sitting on a TV in one indivduals room in the barraks. He should have known better and no one was hurt. Both the live and expended is accountable. Once had a few expended casings and a couple of projectiles but over the years I have no idea what has happened to them. Also had a 30mm casing that's found it's way into another persons inventory. When I worked gun shop on F-16's and later F-15's, during clearing for jammed guns we had to be very careful with the powder. Took some home a couple of times and (finally) lit it. That stuff sure does put out a lot of smoke, and sometimes even after being soaked in soapy water would flame a little.
