OT FUEL PROBLEM ON 1998 2.2 ENGINE.

Hobo or others that can help me on this one. I am trying to fix an 1998 S10 pickup truck for a friend. It has been sitting for about three years. Others had been monkeying with it for months from time to time. I first had to replace the fuel pump. Had to pull the bed off the truck to access the pump. It has about 40 PSI fuel pressure at the test port. I have to turn the switch on and off about four times to get the pressure up to that. It will start and run rough for about five seconds and then begin to skip and sputter ant then die. It will hole the pressure indefinately so I don't thing the pressure regulator is leaking???? I can spray starting fluid into the air intake and it runs OK but will start to sputter the minute the starting fluid burns up???

Any suggeestions???

on my 93 ford i replace the fuel pump and it turn out to be the fuel filter it was doing the same thing

Do you have the equipment to connect to the fuel rail and run it on some injector cleaner? Can you get any codes off of it?

Make sure you get good voltage AND good ground to the pump. I have seen the ground wire removed and left off. And if the filter has not been changed put a new one in. Filter is in a frame rail ahead of the tank.

Heard of problems with new pumps from box stores. My last one went bad after about 6 months, would go up to 45 then drop to 0, sometimes. Replaced with one from Mom & Pop store and working good. Good luck! joe-

Finally realized it had to be the fuel injectors.

Pulled all four of them and the inlets were clogged with rust out of the tank.

Ordered new ones and am going to replace the tank also.
