OT GM service tech bulletin

We have an 02 Trailblazer which has the electric switch on the dash to select 4wd. Yesterday-as the snow was starting to fall, and 6 total was predicted-my daughter tells me the 4wd is not working. I asked her if the indicator lights were on around the switch, she said they were not. Figured it to be a fuse, so I go out and remove one of the 2 fuse panel covers and found one marked 4wd, but it was not blown. Came inside and googled some specifics, and found a forum which mentioned 3 possible other fuses to check for that exact symptom. No problem with them either. Googled it again, came across a GM service tech bulletin, which, of course, says it is not for the 'backyard' mechanic, but for their use only. Anyway, it mentions the possiblity that it has lost communication with the transfer case, and to pull the ATC (automatic traction control) fuse, wait 30 seconds, and this should restore communication.
It worked! Now I know why I was not supposed to use that information-my chevy dealer just loss $100 to count to 30! Greg

Reason I ain't been talkin' for about 5 days is because I was trying to get my strong-willed ex-girlfriend to take her car to a shop. 2002 GMC Envoy. She says it's lagging and not shifting properly. I rode with her (I can't drive it, she won't let me) and I hear the engine race in excess of 4000RPM before shifting the last time near 40mph. Her dad puts more ATF in it. Well--shop mechanic puts a computer on it and determines the computer's speed sensor is reading 50mph faster than the speedometer.

Took me 4 days to convince her to take it to a shop for a free diagnostic. When I found out it wasn't clutches worn out, burnt fluid and a plugged filter, I figured I could come home.

Maybe I should have her try pulling that fuse too, before she goes spending $140 to get a new speed sensor installed.

It'll happen again.You didn't tell averyone what the rest of the bulletin read.

"If code CO550 is present(it will be),2002 Traiblazers only,replace and reprogram TCCM (transfercase control module)and reprogram with latest TIS software".

Only a temp fix by removing fuse.That hundred bucks sounds too cheap now huh?

The service 4wd idiot light was not lit. Not sure it posted a code. Some of the stuff I read about that vehicle was not too good! Hopefully most of it is not found on mine! Greg

We had an '02 Trailblazer. It was plagued with problems from the time it was brand new. mostly little things, but when we totally lost reverse for no reason, (under warranty) I began to have my doubts about the quality of that thing. About a year later, this time out of warranty, the power steering totally quit while navigating snow covered roads, my wife lost control, and ended up in the ditch. She was shook up, but not hurt, and the trailblazer suffered no damage, but when we took into the dealer and found out that the input shaft on the power steering pump had broken inside the pump, I blew up. The dealer tried to pass it off as just one of those things that happens, but I knew better. To make a long story short, the dealer ended up making us a very sweet deal on a new Durango. Don't know what happened to the Trailblazer, but it was never seen again.

I still get fighting mad just thinking about the 2002 trailblazer my wife and I had. What a piece of crap! Got rid of the thing at 42000 miles and one thing is for sure,after purchasing new vehicles from them in the past I"ll never darken the door of our local chevrolet dealer again. You know what service bulletin means? It means they"ve got a problem but you gotta pay for it!
