Somewhere on YTmag there was a discussion of this very topic. Something about using a wire to cut the sealant all the way wround the windsheild before attempting removal.

The consensus was if/when you broke the replacement windsheild it more than payed for having a professional install it.

I would not be taking the new one out. I would buy it all ready out. I would need to put the new one in my truck.

i called my glass company, if its a 2 door 3500 standard cab w air conditioning, (shaded glass) my cost is 256.67 installed. it is an encapsulated glass, the moulding comes with it, it glues in with urethane glue. if you are using a used winshield out of another truck, you have to be sure you dont damage the moulding. if you do, the winshield is junk. they need to be cut out, not an easy task.

Personally I"d spend the extra money and have a professional put in a new one. If you try doing it yourself and it leaks you"ve got problems, if you break it it"s wasted money, etc etc etc. If a pro puts in a new one it should be guaranteed against leaking, if it breaks it"s on them, etc etc etc. We"ve had windshields put in two trucks recently, ("95 freightliner business class, and a "97 C6500 Chevrolette) and both were around $250 installed and both were done at our shop. My advice is pay a pro, in the end it"ll probably be worth it.

Have a shop do it. That is really cheap price. I worked at a glass shop and we had people try and do it and in the end thay will be spining more money. If you dont do it right or the glass shop dont do it right the windshild will blow out if you ever crash when its sopost to say in place. There really hard to do to us 3 guys to do one all most all day to. Just trust me and have the shop do it Maybe if your luckey thay will do it right. If thay put it in and right then thay tell you can come and get it well thats a bunch of junk it needs to stay still for at lest a day just to make sure ever thing has hardend. Cant wash it for a day or two. And even the oil off there fingers can mess it up the glue wont bond to it as well. Any ways I hope you get it fixed
