OT New Nigerian Scam

I got this in an email. Figured I would pass it on yall. Figured it was not as cool as the guy who posted on here a while back who wanted to sell up busted railroad equipment for $12 ton but hey, they are comeing up with new stuff all the time. Yall need to tell other people to be on the look out for these new scams. Way I figure it every one who wants me gone could not come up with five grand let alone this much! If this ain't a scam and you all don't hear from me for a week or so you will know what happend!


"Good Day,

I want you to read this message very carefully, and keep the secret with
you till further notice, You have no need of knowning who i am, where am
from, till i make out a space for us to see, i have being paid $50,000.00
in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my
emplloyer, its one belived you call a friend, i have followed you closely
for one week and three days now and have seen that you are innocent of the
accusation, Do not contact the local police or F.B.I or try to send a copy
of this mail to them, because if you do i will know, and might be pushed
to do what i have being paid to do, beside this is the first time i truned
out to be a betrayer in my job.

Now listed, i will arrange for us to see face to face but before that i
need the amount of $70,000.00 and you will have nothing to be afriad of. I
will be comeing to see you in your officor home determine where you wish
we meet, do not set camera to cover us or set up any tape to record our
conversation, my employer is in my control now.

You will need to pay $20,000.00 to the account i will provide for you,
before we will set our first meeting, after you have make the first
advance payment to the account, i will give you the tape that contain his
request for me to terminate you, which will service as an evidence for you
to take hime to court (if you wish to) then the balance will be paid
later.

You dont need my phone contact for now till am asured you are ready to
comply good.

Nigeria?? Is that all that goes on there? I haver never heard anything good about that country, just violence, scamming, and human rights abuses. Wish the old USA, would just "disconnect" their access to this country. Do they farm over there.

Yep, heard on TV that such scam is the number one indusdry in Nigeria. They even showed a school where people were trained for it. Why do they do it? because it works. Enough idots in the world.

I have been to Nigeria(Lagos). Never found anything good there. Every Nigerian I met tried to scam me, and that was 20 years ago! Never even heard of the Internet yet. I have traveled the world and Nigeria is the LAST place I'd want to return to. Colombia is the second last, although I did meet some locals out in the rural areas that were very nice. Yes, I think we should pull the plug on Nigeria. Dave

I support a lot of users who are always bringing me things to look at, so I see a lot of scams.

Here is one from yesterday:

This is a confidential message from British Imperial Fund Managers: Private Equity and financial Consultants.

We are conducting a standard process investigation on behalf of HSBC PRIVATE BANKING, the private banking arm of the international Banking conglomerate.

This investigation involves a client who shares the same surname with you and also the circumstances surrounding investments made by this client at HSBC Private.

The client died in intestate and nominated no successor in title over the investments made with the bank. The essence of this communication with you is to request you provide us information/comments on any or all of the issues:


1-Are you aware of any relative/relation who shares your same name who's last known contact address was Brussels Belgium?

2-Are you aware of any investment of considerable value made by such a person at the Private Banking Division of HSBC Bank PLC?

3-Can you establish beyond reasonable doubt your eligibility to assume status of successor in title to the deceased?

It is pertinent that you inform us ASAP whether or not you are familiar with this personality that we may put an end to this communication with you and our inquiries surrounding this personality.

You must appreciate that we are constrained from providing you with more detailed information at this point. Please respond to this mail as soon as possible to afford us the opportunity to close this investigation.

Don't condemn all Nigerians. I knew a sociology professor from Nigeria. Nobody can pronounce his name, so we all just called him "Dr. Olu". That was close enough.

While I was taking classes at the University of Nebraska, our daughter was attending Nebraska Wesleyan University, and she had Dr. Olu for one sociology class. I needed to interview someone from a different culture than my own for some paper or other, and our daughter suggested I interview Dr. Olu.

He was a fascinating gentleman. I spent an hour with him, and wished I could have spent the entire afternoon. He commented that after he came to the U.S., he did undergraduate work at a small college in Georgia. He told me that as a citizen of Nigeria, he was accepted by the local white community far more readily than by the local blacks. This led to speculation that the blacks in America have developed their own culture that excludes blacks from other countries.

He also told me that in his culture, he and I could live as next door neighbors for ten years and he would never, ever, call me by my first name, simply because I am older than he. I sometimes think we could use more of those formalities in America.

I'm well aware that Nigeria is a prolific breeding ground for an unbelievable number of scams, but not all apples in the barrel are rotten.

Here is one other one from last week. Some guy (apparently in Ireland) sent this message out to a lot of the users at my university (my school's domain is opsu.edu). Since it looks like it came from my IT department, one dept head fell for it and sent her password to the guy.

I just changed the password on her account - it was not nearly as serious as if she'd given out her online banking password, but still, that is probably the type of things this guy(s) was fishing for, once he had access to their emails...

That is a sad and depressing scam.
I need to ask other responders to refrain from adding comments to posts that characterize people or regions, or nations with expressions that denigrate the whole. Not only are they disrespectful to the many fine people who do live there, but they perpetuate the image of a prejudice USA. We are not above criticism our selves. Nationality is just a function of when an individual was born, nations are our own invention. JimN

Well...I'd say in this case Nigeria has made a name for itself. Yeah it's not all of them, but their government needs to police it's own. We don't do enough business with that country to make it worth dealing with them.
