When I was a kid...some 50 years ago I had some stomach problems and I remember an old country Dr writing my grandmother out a recipe that really helped.
It consisted of karo syrup, orange juice, baking soda and maybe some 7 up or ginger ale I think. I remember you took a teaspoon full every little bit.

I am not sure of all the ingrediants or how it was mixed, except the karo syrup and orange juice.

Have any of you guys ever mad this or had it made for you or recall of anything like this.

Thanks

many soft drinks had their origins in medicinal chemistry and patent medicines.

7-UP originally had lithium citrate in it - a mood stabilizing drug.

Most young "farm kids" that attended the 1 room school house that I attended:

ONION PLASTER: I small sack pinned to the chest area of the "handy-down" shirt. Into the sack put 1 ea. fried, or raw, ONION.
Wear the sack all day long while attending school.

Do not think about NOT attending school!!!!!

In fact sometimes, the extra onions that mom sent along was added during the SCHOOL day!

John,PA Onion plastered many times. :)

Back around 1940-1950, my g-mother made a drink with orange juice, onions, and castor oil and other possible things. It was cooked on the stove. Bad stuff! Also, she made what was called a "Muster plaster". Don"t know what was in it, but it would burn you up! She (or my mother) would slap this wet greasy thing on my bare chest. It would start out cold and clammy. Then about five minutes and it would be warm. Then it would get hot as scalding water, and I would have to holler for about five minutes before they would take it off. My chest would be bright pink.

"For tickle coughs lemon juice and honey"

Add to that a lil' bit of whiskey and hot water..

At least it helped put us kids to sleep!!

DOGWOOD trees. Was always TOLD to becareful of the TREES.

SIR.......tell me........what is the newer scoop about "protecting the UNIVERSE"????

ALSO, be advised: The EPA has set up a bunch of NEW REULES about "Protecting the STRATOSPHERE.

I turned down the FREE LUNCH for the upcoming seminar, afraid of the $450.00 bill later to arrive. Some university just start'N up in New York STATE. Here, in PA, there has to be some sorta STATE certificate on a wall somewheres if'n YOU want to teach or learn others for MONEY. Another "LEACH".

Don't know that one but vodka and hot peppers blended works well for a good many problems. It burns out the bugs and helps you sleep good also. Just take a hand full of hot peppers and drop them in a blender then pour in the vodka blend and cool in the fridge. Works for dogs cats chicken and humans plus can be used to loose weight to boot LOL

My mother just used baking soda on me - tasted like krap & I hated it, but it worked - I suspect most of the other stuff in your recipe just made the baking soda go down tasting better. I generally just pop a couple of tums or equivalent today and then take a swig of water.

Here"s one for ya. "Cod Liver Oil", Guaranteed to kill any "bug" you may have. Only drawback is that it tastes soooo bad you can"t hardly get it down. That stuff is nasty. Don"t know how they were allowed to sell it when I was a kid,(child cruleity). Didn"t matter, mom made us take it anyway at least twice a week. Must of worked cause I hardly ever got sick and missed school only twice in four years.
