OT/Replacing starter rope on snowblower

I have an 8 hp Tecumseh Snow King that the rope broke on today. It appears that the rope on these are held in place with a staple into the plastic housing inside the recoil. I can't pull that staple to replace the rope. How do you get that thing out of there?

Sidecutters or needlenose pliers.

I tried both of those, as well as a screwdriver. It almost appears it is heated when it is put in.

Do you have the pully out? A lot easier with pully out of housing. The staple is a little stubborn, but normally a screwdriver or side cutters to take it out.

Make sure the new rope is long enough.
