i"m looking for a mild performance muffler for my truck. it"s a chevy 1500 with the 4.3 vortec V6. i"m torn between 2. the classic Cherry Bomb, or the Flowmaster 50 series. the Flowmaster is A LOT more $$$, but the i think i like the sound better. do any of you guys have any experience with either? i just want a mellow tone and a mileage boost would be nice too.
thanks guys!

Yep,go with the Flowmaster, you'll be glad ya did.Glasspacks just don't sound good on the newer Chevs in my opinion.

It's obviously a matter of opinion, but I generally don't care for glass packs unless they're on a high performance engine that's really gettin' at it. On low horsepower engines they just have a dull, annoying sound.

If you like irritating noise, go with the glasspack.
If you want the sound of power, go with the flowmaster.

shop around your local muffler shops- I put a pair of "MagnaFlow" mufflers on my 87 el camino with a 4.3 and it sounds "bad a$$"- strong but not obnoxiously loud until you really hammer it. This is a "suitcase" style fabricated muffler but less expensive than the Flow Masters-
I ran it through 2 1/4 inch duals.

If you want a mellow tone, I don't think either is going to please you. The cherry-bomb has a very sharp crack, the flow-master a loud rasp and drone.

I think you'd be much better pleased with a dynomax super turbo. They have a low mellow tone, very good flow, and are only mildly louder than stock mufflers.

Yep - go with the "Flow"master. I put a dual outlet cat-back system on my '92 4.3 and had a few guys (probably not "in-the-know") ask if I "had a supercharger on it or something". I could set off car alarms in town grabbin' 2nd gear around a corner. Only other set up i've heard that came close was custom bent 3 inch pipe straight off the cat to the back bumper (explain that one to the fuzz).

chop it off about a foot behind the Cat and run it will give that deep roar and loud when you punch it used to be legal as long as the exhaust ran behind the cab I had a 93 with 350 could either sneak in to the bosses plaace or could set off every car alarm in a six story parking garage when in college got ckecked and state patrol said I was fine thats been about five years ago if you run it through a glass pack drive a pipe threw the Cat it will sound better and you will be the only one to know

go with the flowmaster the cherry bomb only sounds good with a lot of motor in front of it,[ 400 cid or bigger] a v-6 just aint got the cubes, sound is all about the harmonics think of it this way; listen to a honda or other jap 2 cylinder bike with straight pipes, then fire up a big harley and listen, youll see what i mean both 2 cylinders, 1's got the harmonics, one aint

I Had A 93, Chev.350 2500 And, After The Converter Had A Y Pipe And Duals Out The Back, Sounded Great, Not Too Loud, I ran It That Way For 10 Years Or More. Didn't Have To Buy Mufflers
