Way off topic,but need your opinions.My sanyo tv 32 inch,only four years old,decided to die yesterday,with a loud POP.Out of warranty,no repair shop for 60 miles..Picture tube ,fuse,or new tv.What are the best prices at walmart for old style tv ,not HD, but same screen size (32inch) ?????????????????

Can't say for sure on the price, but probably dirt cheap because the non-HD TVs are basically obsolete. For what it's worth, the prices are dropping on the HD TVs also. You might want to look at both.

You can also shop Wal-Mart on-line. Don't have to fight the crowds that way.

If you going to get a new TV make sure it is able to receive a digital signal.

Buy a new non digital tv, which should be at a bargain price, get on line and get your digital convertor coupons(2)from the government, and get you digital convertor, you should be good for a few years til they make every one go satelite!

I think I've got the same one - a 32" Sanyo DS32224 I bought at Walmart on-sale 3-4 years ago for $299.
Our's has been fine. I think failures are rare with any of them now adays (unlike the vacuum-tube days). We just stopped using it as a main TV since we got tired of all our rental movies from Netflix being widescreen - and thusly being pretty small on the Sanyo. We bought a new 42" LCD widescreen for $700. We didn't care about the HD part, just wanted the wide-picture. I thought at the time that the LCD would also save on electricity - and I was wrong. Winds up the LCDs use almost the exact same current as tube TVs when compare like-sized viewing screens.
If you go back to Walmart, I wouldn't be afraid of their cheap Chinese Durabrands. We bought two for some remote properties we have, and they've been fine (at least so far). We have a Walmart Durabrand combo TV and DVD that we keep in our truck camper and it's been banged around a lot and still works fine.

I bought a tube-type digital RCA tv from Walmart about two weeks ago. It was a 24 in (because that fit in the cabinet) and it cost me $186. 1 yr extended warranty was $18.00. I didn"t buy the extra warranty. Just make sure whatever you buy is digital. As of Feb. 2009, they will stop broadcasting in analog. I do suggest you check the Walmart website. If you find something you want, it will tell you if the store in your area has it in stock, then give them a call and make sure they have it. Saves lots of time and gas. Circuit City had a larger one for $299, but it wouldn"t fit in the cabinet so I didn"t pay much attention to it. Check their website. You might also try this website www.techbargains.com. They don"t have any physical stores so you will have to pay shipping, but sometimes you can get some really good prices on a wide range of electronics.

If you can; check the power supply. That is a common failure.
Also, unplug it to cool down and there may also be a reset button.

Or you can opt to give up on TV. Spend a little more time here and the many other interesting sites. We haven't had TV for 6-8 years, Just got tired of watching bad news,bad shows, politicians and hyped up weather. Don't miss it one bit. Any news we need to see we can get right here on the internet. For entertainment I get to watch Allen- Ne. work on his collection( Hain't never saw nutin like dat on TV) Tim the Toolman maybe? NAAAAAA Allen's got waaay more class

I'd look pretty close at the boxes of the tv's you guys buy at Wally World. I've seen plenty of the tvs and electronics being stored in the greenhouses during the seasons and wonder what all that dampness will do to the products. chris

Really loud pop sounds like a blown electrolytic capacitor. Probably power supply filter. If you can find old tv guy, easy fix. Not a special part either.

A good HD LCD 40 inch TV is going to be a better buy for you by far & about the same size. The future of TV is the wide screen, will use less power than a tube type, and so on.

I see the tube type on the back shelf of Best Buy, etc. Not sure they make them that big any more, just bargin small units.
