What would be a fair price for a 4000 diesel with 4500 hrs, ROPS, and power steering. Assume average condition, with everything working. Thanks in advance for any response.

Which 4000?
Ford built two of them.
The 62-65 4 cylinder model was basically
the same machine as the 800/801
tractors. Then from 65-75 they built the
3 cylinder 4000s which are much more
substantial machines - bigger, longer,
heavier, more HP, more features.

First of all, never trust the hours on
the clock on a 65-75 3 cylinder Ford.
Ever!
The tachs and proof meters were
notoriously failure prone and quit early
and often.
Just a Swag here but Base price probably
$3250. Tops for a really nice one
probably $6000+.
Diesels generally fetch more than a
gasser. They made the 4000 in 3 variants
all of which had the same chassis -
engine, tranny, rear end.
All Purpose, Row Crop and Super Utility
(SU) which was basically a 4000 with a
3000 front end - wishbone style like an
N has. An SU will generally fetch more
than the others. RC the least.
Ford also built several industrial
derivitives on that platform.
The most desirable models will have the
standard 8 sp transmission with
Independent PTO. The least is the Select
O Speed models. An SOS will generally
knock at least $1200? off the price.
The photos below are just some I grabbed
off the net and show all 3 variants.
4000 AP, 4000 SU and 4000 RC.

I hope you get it. My email is always
open if you want more info.
By the way, I don't think it's too far
OT to have a post about this here.
When I was looking to upgrade from an N
it was posts like yours that gave me
some idea of what other model Fords to
consider.
