overcharging-now no charge

posted on garden tractor page,not much luck,so try here.have a wisconsin engine with starter/generator,was overcharging so put on new regulator,now no charge at all.have wiring diagram so know all wires are right. any ideas? thanks
 
I am not familiar with that particular machine. The comment below about polarizing is correct for generators. Alternators must never be polarized. Any attempt to do so probably will do serious damage.
 
Try "full-fielding" it by grounding the "F" terminal on the starter/generator.

If it then charges, the regulator is bad, not grounded, or there's a wiring problem.


 
Did you read my post... polarizing beyond what happens in "start" mode isn't needed, not can it POSSIBLY help.

Did you "full-field" it as I suggested... that will "tell the tale" as to what is wrong.
