pertonic and plug wire

Pertronix recommends resistance (graphite core) plug wires on all of their systems. Metallic wires can cause the module to fail.

I advise you to ask Pertroniox and heed their advice versus what opinions anyone here (me included) may offer. Some (not all) of their high energy ignition systems require a degree of suppression plug wires be they spiral wire wound or other. Your choice of coil and elec switch can affect what plug wires should be used

Ask them to be safe and insure warranty etc, they, NONE OF US, engineered, designed and best know their system.

If you are using a standard Pertronix kit, there is no requirement for spark plug wires. You can use anything you want. I installed half-a-dozen of them this year. NO mention or caution about it in the factory installation instructions. If you have a high energy potential Pertonix II then there IS a requirement not so use solid copper plug wires.

Only caution for a standard Pertonix kit as far as resistance goes it the coil primaries must have at least 3 ohms resistance when used on a four cylinder engine.

I see these sorts of questions asked often yet I rarely see anyone indicate which version of Pertonix. There are three totally different versions and I suspect most of us working on old tractors are using the older, lower energy potential standard Pertronix.

Just an added comment. Like I said, 3 ohms for a four cylinder engine and 12 volt system. I do not know off-hand what coil primary resistance Pertronix calls for on a two-bange and 6 volt system. Oddly, the Pertronix company does not list an instruction manual in PDF for the 6 volt version. I assume you have the Pertronix # 1123P6. I'd like to know what your install instructions say.
