You're probably right. That is unfortunate.
Classic view has finally been thrown in the trash where it belongs. It is now 2024. These people need to get with the times.

What you say is true.
You can make 12v using 8 flashlight batteries.
The flashlight batteries can't produce enough current to start a car.
Just because a battery can produce 12v doesn't mean it can produce enough cranking amps.
This meter takes the guesswork out of how many amps a battery can produce.
This is a new battery rated at 850 cold cranking amps and over 1000 cranking amps.

Well sir that's why I have a HF carbon pile, load tester. One of the best 50 bucks I ever spent. Not familiar with your meter. Considering 200 amperes being a common starting current for numerous sized and types of engines, and needing 10 volts min. across the starter when the battery is delivering 200 amperes, I don't know how that meter can instrument that test senario.

We'll take a look at this neat Ram 1500 with new brake pads, kmc wheels, and toyo tires. It's been sitting for about 5 months and now it also hard starting. The battery got 12.1 volts so I guess it also needs a new battery.

12.1 Volts is nearly dead.

A fully charged "12V" battery will measure 12.6V to 12.8V after sitting for 12 hours. Most of the battery's capacity is between 12.7V and 12.0V.

I think on what I’ve set to ignore it doesn’t seem like a block button fortunately and unfortunately. I can still go find everything. I think you can still see all posts it just doesn’t ring the red bell. It is what it is.

ah yes you are correct I must not have refreshed the page when I tried it before. Once I did it took all of yours away. You can see that there was something there though the red shaded area pops up like you say.

Gable, setting 5 months is a lot different then driving something recently and then suddenly you have battery trouble. Maybe after the 5 months you have driven it enough to determine there is a battery problem. I would at least have it tested before replacing it.

I have recently discovered that some batteries have a pretty steep self discharge cycle. I am retired and quit thinking when I retired so I don't dive into the depth of things that I once did. So I take the easy way out in problem solving. To me, at this time and experience level in my life, 5 months is long enough for most batteries to self discharge to the point where they won't even do a good job of running the head lights.

So, the question becomes, charge the battery before you attempt to start the vehicle and then monitor it with a voltmeter to see if it has recovered or has failed to recover. Used to be one thing you checked the fluid level in the battery and ensured it was up to the level indicators prior to attempting to charge. With todays sealed batteries you don't have that convenience......but the others are to our advantage.

Battery just recovered to the initial charge level while there was no load on it. When you load it with just the ignition and accessories that come on it drops to 7. You shouldn’t be stumped, your diagnosis is telling you your battery is junk. I don’t know the exact technicalities but I believe what you experiencing is a poor connection in the batteries internal plates. The connection is good enough to show some voltage under a light load.

Plates are sulphated (H2SO4) Sulphuric Acid contaminated. Current can't flow when you can't have a chemical reaction within the lead to acid interface. My take on it.

Yes, it was tested and needs to be replaced.

but your CCA , Cold Crank Amp
will read low
replace the battery
