Rather than insert full images, have mercy on those with limited ISP bandwidth and upload thumbnails. That way anyone that wants to see the full image can click on it and have their full image. And, the other individuals will not have to contend with data and speed caps prematurely. I have been in that boat, and it is really frustrating to have to endure the excessive amount of time a full size images to download.

I am not seeing a size in bytes difference between the thumbnail and the fullsize posted image.

If I download the thumbnail posted pic (the shop picture) it is 2Mb
If I download the fullsize posted image it is still 2 Mb

Both are 2,080Kb

In my experience the thumbnails, in a post, load very fast, whereas a full-sized image takes quite a while. If I want to see the full-sized image, then I click on the thumbnail, and then go get a cup of coffee!

Yes, both the thumbnail and the full-size image show the same file size. Enlarge your screen for both a thumbnail and full-sized image, and you will readily see the thumbnail is pixelated, whereas the full-sized image is not. The original resides on the server as xxx MB, and the thumbnail is just a reduced resolution image of that original. That is why the thumbnail loads much quicker; less data to transmit. Clicking on the thumbnail sends a request to the server to download the full-resolution original. A lot more data to transmit and therefore takes longer.

When I had a very limited data download speed, I would always bypass those posts that contained full-sized images; they really ate into my data/speed allotment. The thumbnails were fairly easy to see, and if I wanted to examine the image more closely, would download the full-sized image. Again, I could get a cup of coffee in the time it took to load some of those images!

Starlink solved the speed issue, but I still prefer thumbnails in posts. Another advantage of thumbnails is, one doesn't have to scroll through numerous full-sized, non-interesting (at least to me) images to get to one that stands out. Most of the thumbnails are in a row at the bottom of the post, and one can go to the one of interest and click on it for further review. zuhnc

When I click on the thumbnail, it does not download, it just shows up.
At least I am thinking it does not download as it appears to still be on the webpage.
Although the web address drops the "page-2" on the end when you are viewing the post vs viewing the picture.

I did a little experiment. I disconnected the internet from my computer and took two screen shots of a previous post.

Image one is of the original post; the thumbnail is not present, and in image two, is the message when I click on it. Not definitive, but I think a request IS sent to the server for the original file. If using an extremely fast internet connection (fibre, maybe?) the images will show up almost instantaneously.

Maybe the site administrators know?

You could be onto something with the call to the server for the images. I am attempting to rebuild the cache and the post indexes, I suspect it is just held up on a process as can sometimes be the case with high traffic sites. I have my script running and it should complete at some point in the wee hours of the morning! I will know more when I login tomorrow morning!

Thanks for the heads up, hopefully an easy fix on my end!

That looks to be a fairly new shop. I like the wood siding on bottom. Makes for easy hanging stuff.

Hi flying Belgian. I moved into that shop in February so yes it is new. I call it my happy place. I had the builders put 2x8 planks for that part of the shop. It is great for hanging shelves etc. Thanks.

Seems as if you have gotten it! All the thumbnails appear in the posts I see on my computer, and I can click on them to get them full size.

Posting thumbnails allows those with low internet speed or data/speed caps to download and enlarge those they want without impacting their IPS restrictions much. I used to be in that camp, and full-sized images took forever to load and put a serious hit on my data allotment. Those that posted thumbnails allowed me to pick which ones I wanted to see in greater detail.

Starlink eliminated those requirements, but thumbnails are still appreciated in posts.

I like the garage shot, but it is too clean and roomy. How did it get like that? I can't keep mine uncluttered. zuhnc

That never occurred to me. I'll post only the thumbnails from now on, to keep from overloading someone else's system. steve
