Piston ring end gap on diesel???????????

What the piston end gap suppost to be? This for leyland 498 diesel. Is there a generic standard gap? What is it? Thanks Gary
 
A "generic rule of thumb" for piston ring gap is .003" of ring gap per 1" of bore diameter.
 
Bob is right. Basically, if your bore diameter is 4" then your ring end gap should be .012 -.016. Anything in between is good enough.
 
I should have added, if the bore is "used", ring clearance must be measured at the "tightest" part of the bore, in the ring travel area, to avoid having too little clearance, with disasterous results.
