Please help!! Ford 800 rear main

Is he soaking the seals for a couple hours before installation? A dry rope seals may overheat and glaze before the oil gets to it. ( if he is indeed using a rope).

I prefer a rope on an iffy crank because a lip seal needs a little more accuracy.

All the replacement rope seals for this engine I have seen are impregnated graphite no oil soak needed. I can guarantee ya that seal is gonna get a oil bath fast no soak needed.

Hobo do you recommend using the rope or rubber seal? And should he use the pencil seals (what I call them) or just fill it full of the reinz rtv?

Thank you. Hoping he can figure this out! He don’t have the money to buy another tractor and I can see it’s really bothered him. I think he’s going to try the bs 6141-3 seal kit that was in the video and use the victor reinz rtv for the sides and not use the pencil type seals?

In one of those videos he does not use the paper side seals I prefer them over anything else. If I have new ones I apply a coat of RTV to them if the old ones are usable I clean them and apply RTV to them. I do not like the rubber side seals I would not use them.

If all fails he will need to take the crank out and check it, its either a worn crank are a well worn engine that no seal will seal. How much blow by does it have ?.

I agee with the paper side seals instead of rubber. The rubber ones with pins are just plain brutal.

I am going to go at a different approach to this. Is it really the rear main and not a transmission leak? My brother asked for help replacing the rear main on his Ford 2000. When I got there, he had it split and all cleaned up. So, I replaced the seal, and helped reassemble it. A week later, 'it's still leaking, come back'. So, I told him if he gets it split before I get over there, 'don't clean anything until I see it first'. Turned out, it was a transmission leak. One of the welch plugs for the shift rails was leaking. 50 cent part. Mark.

I’m trying to help my dad, he’s had My papaws 1963 ford 800 gas tractor apart 4-5 times and can’t keep it from leaking oil out of the rear main, He’s tried the rubber and rope seal he’s tried taking one out he’s tried silicone on the side holes and everything. Every time it starts back leaking bad. I feel bad for him as this was his dad’s tractor and he keeps trying and trying but nothing is fixing it. Any help is very much appreciated!! Local Ford dealer doesn’t know
