Plow Difference

I bought a IH Disc Plow off of here cause it's something you don't see everyday. I have been told a Disc Plow is for sandy ground where a moldboard plow wouldn't work good. Just wondering where the difference is and why you would use one?

Rocks.A disk plow will roll/bounce over big rocks.A moldboard plow will 'hook' the rocks and bend the $#!+ out of things-just tear it all to he!!.

I think the disc plow is used on land with rocks and tough roots not necessary in sandy ground. It rolls over obstacles. The moldboard plow would work a lot better in the sandy ground.

I have a ferguson disc plow.

if you have a lot of loose material that can clog a flat bottom plow,

an old disc plow with cut right through it and just keep going. They also pull eaiser than a flat bottom plow,

but if the ground has a lot of heavy turf the disc plow will leave the ground rough.

however, that is good for fall breaking as it puts the dirt up in the air to dry and then it falls apart in the spring.
