plow/disc or notill

i have about 7 acres i want to reseed in hay for next year i have a 3 bottom plow and a 8ft disc for a 165 diesel or would it be more practical to notill instead thanks

Well all depends on how much ya want to spend . If ya want a nice level smooth field then work the ground Plow it let it dry out some then run the disc over it then in my area ya harvest the rock crop disc it again pick more rocks drag a harrow around pick more rocks then seed it then run the culipacker over it to mash the little rock down so they can breed and make more rocks for the next time ya till the ground.

Depends on what's in there and what you're planting. If it's an old alfalfa seeding and you want to go back to alfalfa,you're wasting your money and time either way. There is a toxin in the roots of the old plants that will kill new plants.You'll have to plow it and put it to something else for at least a year. If you're just reseeding grass,no til will be OK.

can't do it. never works. you can't have hay one year, plow it up and re-seed it to hay or grass again. you'd have to put corn or something in there THEN you can plant it back to grass, alfalfa, whatever. that's just my experience with trying that.

As others have said the answer, just like most questions is "it depends". Alot depends on where you are, what you have, and what you want. I do not know where you are or what your weather/soils are so I will answer as if you are in west Ky. If you have alfalfa and want alfalfa, as said work it, go with a winter annual (wheat or rye grass) then a summer annual(pearl millet), then back to alfalfa next year. If you have a grass/clover mix and just want it thicker sow grass now on what you have and drag it in with something. (Pasture harrow works good, even a pipe or post pulled like a drag, you just want to get he seed in contact with the soil.) Then sow clover on frozen ground after the first of the year. If you are wanting to start fresh, and it is good and smooth now spray it and kill whats there and no till. If it is rutted up or something plow, disk, disk, and maybe disk again then sow/drill. What ever you do good luck.
