Is this # 55? Looking for one to pull with my A. Two different ones.

One is a manual trip, and the other is newer version, has mounts for hydraulic cylinder and grease zerks on it for the
Bottom trip I would assume. Not very familiar with older JD plows. All we had was, Moline, Oliver, IH, and a 145 JD for the 3020.

Soil conditions are different across the country - we used a two bottom behind our A's - never tried three, but I think it would have been a struggle in our heavy clay.

Both look like a little much for you A if you plan on plowing tough soils. Maybe if you can find a 3x 12" plow it would work, but otherwise, I'd look for a two bottom to be on the safe side.

First one looks like a 666H and the second looks like a 55 (ground lift). Consider parts availability before buying something you'll end up sticking way too much $$ into.

I agree with the others, I've pulled 3 14's with my 52 A and I had to shift down, it pulled her pretty hard and I didn't like that so I went home and switched to 2 14's and she pulled them like no ones business. If your at a plowing bee and struggling with three bottoms you don't make many fans when the others catch up to you.

Maybe that 666 would work on my JD 55 model 60, has a little more power. The A that I have used to pull a IH 3/14 in 3rd gear here in SW MN. I don't want to work it to hard, guess I better pass on the one and look for a 2 bottom. What model would be around the same year as my A? 1951

Thank you for the link. I remember my grandpa had what he called a 855, one for his 50, and one for his 60. it was a mounted one I think.

Here in Central Ohio, the only JD "A" around here that pulled 3x14" had a Power Block in it...otherwise, 2x16" would be plenty..

Ron..
