Plunger on top link.

I have a 1946 2N. The plunger bolt broke on the top link of my 3 point hitch, and I ordered a new one from this site. However, when the part arrived last night I decided to make sure it is the same. But the threads appear to be coarse, but my old plunger has fine threads. I need to know what is going on here. Is it an 8N part that doesn,t fit the 2N, and do I need to now buy the yoke to match the threads on this new bolt. Thanks, KG

Send it back and get fine thread replacement from other sites or bone yard. Somethig doesn't sound rightin supplier.
I got mine apart right now, but used acatylene, torch heat, between space in big spring. Repair manual says "to hand tighten it, so spring doesn't turn and just back off a little." It didn't say anything about placement of hand lever, but because it changes with the lever position, I assume I should have it in "Up position"
I also worried about possible damage I may have done inside, when plowing new land with "root stoppers". I'm hoping fix outside is enough now and test will be how it works later.

Mine shows a lot of wear. On the inside of the plate, the plunger bolt was rubbing and wore a grove in the plate. And the seat had some wear and now it is kind of egg shape instead of round. And the plunger bolt was bent, besides it being broken. I don't know if it is from 60 years of abuse or what I have been doing with it lately. I am thinking of replacing more than just the bolt.

There are two different ones. Part # 9N541C Plunger fits both the 9N and the 2N. Part # 8N541B Plunger fits the 8N, NAA, NAB, and 8NAN. It sounds like you got the 8N541B by mistake. It may have been in the wrong parts bin if you ordered the other part.

I believe the 8N541B is the only one available now and should be 24 threads per inch. You may need to either find a used one to match your threads or replace the yoke to match the new plunger.

Yes I will ask the supplier to get me a yoke that fits the new plunger before I order it. I also see there is a 8n541A plunger. All this is confusing because when I ordered it had 8n541B was for 9n, 2n, and 8n. But this is not the case.
Thanks to all for your replies.

Repair manual Fo 4 is also confusing on mating Yoke (9N546C) and Plunger (8N541B). From what others say 9N part and 8N part are not compatable.
Sounds like you'll have to order compatable coarse thread yoke to match your coarse thread.

rom Randy(PA) a few years ago...Ford prints:
Both the 8N-541-A and 541-B are 5/8-24 thd 1.44 long. This special rolled thread continued into the 60's, at least. The NAA mating part, the yoke NAA-546-A is 5/8-24. Looking at 9N yokes, 9N-546-A is 5/8-18, 9N-546-B is 5/8-32, and 9N-546-C is 5/8-24. The 5/8-24 tap was special, with pitch diameter .5938-.5970.
