does anyone know what correct point gap is for 1954 tea-20 standard gas engine i"m thinking 22 to 25 ???

I like 20 a bit better. If you go for 21 it should wear down to 20 and perhaps last just a wee bit longer? No?

I wouldn't go past .020" even if it called for more. the wider the gap the more rubbing pressue is put on the cam rider of the points wearing them out faster and may cause premature failure of the condenser. the settings on magnetos vary from .013"-.020"

The points on a TEA should be .015" and the plugs should be .030" use L10 or equivalent plugs, they are very fussy on plugs. Make sure that the ground is Positive to ground if it has a Generator and try reversing the low tension wires on the coil if it has been wired incorrectly, try them both ways and use the way that gives the best spark. If you have problems with the spark, change the [email protected]

Champion L10.

They were made by Champion, they now use L86C Champion set to .030". This engine was always better on these Champion Plugs for some reason. You can try others of course but make sure that they are directly comparable with the Champion Plug, not just some that the parts guy has and want to sell you. This often happens, more often than you think. Make sure the points are set correctly as well on this engine, it always runs better and it should also be wired Positive to Ground unless you have an alternator [email protected]

Thank you for the information. I have a '52 TEA that I acquired when I purchased a cabin on the shores of Georgian Bay on Lake Huron a few years ago. It spends the winter under a tarp. with temperatures going down to -20C +/- and each spring I pray that she will start up again. I'm not a mechanic but I'm learning and eager to keep my little grey pal in action.
I installed new points last fall but was not sure what the correct setting was.
I will set them based on your information.
