Porter Cable tools

We have a Porter Cable random orbital sander that started to labor when turned on. I took it apart and there were the culprits, Chinese bearings. I wasn't too surprised I guess. Time was PC made excellent power tools. They are now in my suspectious catagory along with Delta& Dewalt.

I used to be a hardcore Porter Cable fan myself. I used some Bosch tools and was very happy, I'm leaning more towards them on future purchases.

I just blew one of those to smithereens myself but it has LOTs of hours on it. I have a 20 year old P C drill that is bulletproof but when I look at the new PC tools at Lowes I just shake my head, they realy look cheaply made.

I have found that most all of the newer tools are basically junk, from the cheap to the higher priced ones. I have found that "for the money" Ryobi power tools have given me the best performance for dollar spent. They are still just a use and throw away tool like most of the rest.

Recently I had a defective Delta tool. When I went to the support site, Delta, Dewalt, and Porter Cable logos were displayed also. When I got a letter from them acknowledging my complaint, it was from Black and Decker! So I figure they are all the same.

I bought a Makita drill and impact set, and it"s the best I"ve seen.

In the last 30 years I guess I have tried about every power tool made. Many years ago Black and Decker Industrial grade tools were hard to beat, I still have a couple of grinders that are over 25 years old and still going. The new ones are junk. The only ones made today that will stand up to my work are Milwaukee. I buy 4 1/2 in grinding wheels 100 at a time and that only lasts me 4 to 6 months. A lot of guys won't use that many in a lifetime. So my tools have to be good to stand up to that kind of use..

I picked up a Bosch drill at an auction a few months ago; most powerful and smoothest running hand drill I've ever used. Swiss design and manufacturing is in a far different class than Chinese...

I thought Bosch was German based?

Of course what we get is Bosch North America based. Where they are built? I have no idea.

I do like Bosch tools though.
And their dishwashers are fantastic.

PC hs pretty much become a china company thanks to being now owned by Black and Decker. My old PC palm sandder was USA made and top shelf. The one I replaced it with was more powerful but clearly not in the same class and not USA or eurpe made. They are decent but far from a top quality tool for most items they sell. were before I would rank my brands with PC at the top. It now reads
Bosch
Miluallkee
Makita
Ridgid
Porter Cable
Ryobi
Dewaltt
Skill
B&D

Based on my experiences and the tools I see on the majority of the millwrights trucks, the ones that hold up best are DeWalt, Metabo, and Bosch, based on popularity. I can remember the day when Milwaukee would be on that list, but not anymore. I sometimes see other brands, but when asked about generally seem to be desperation buys when the "good" one didn't survive the 40 ft drop to concrete drive. My Dewalt cordless has seen several 6+ foot drops to concrete floors without damage.

I work in a Maintenance shop in a steel plant there are 21 guys that work there you can say what you want about DeWalt tools but 21 guys 7 days a week 24 hours a day use these 18 volt tools every day and they hold up very well! Sure they don't last forever nothing dose! but they hold up a long long time! And as far as Metabo grinders we have run the gammit on them used pretty much every brand! Metabo is the only brand we buy and trust me these grinders get abused day in day out! They have proven themselfs to me and they are in my tool box at home and at work! my 2 cents!
