Position Control Device

You don't happen to mean a control device to keep the implement height steady instead of using the Ferguson system, do you. If so, there's a simple design circulating and I've been using the one I built for years.

Patrick,

I will assume you have a -20 or TO-30.

E-mail me and I can send you the plans on how to build a position control device. You can also go to the FENA web site and get the position control article I wrote for the Ferguson Furrows. It is located under the Restoration Tips section.

FYI for JP in FL you will not find position control on parts tractors as it was not manufactured by Ferguson.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have a '51 TO-20. I am referring to the device that attaches to the finger tip lever/quadrant and the lift arms, which is used to hold an implement at a static height. I remember seeing the plans for one awhile back. Thanks Jeff. I don't have much time to make one. I wish I did.

I am a 33yr old father of 2 (soon to be a 3rd). I bought an LU-O-20 Manure loader in April, that I have yet to put on/together due to the time requirements of my full time job on top of our small farm business and family. Not sure if I would need to remove a "positioner" to use the loader. I do need to remove the headlights, unfortunately. My tractor is a working tractor on our small farm. It is the only tractor that I have (not counting the mower). I had the engine rebuilt a year ago, and now it runs like a top. I love this tractor. I need to get wheel weights and chains for better traction plowing snow and a "positioner" to help hold implements more accurately. I also need to clean out and replace the peanut butter in the tranny before I hook uo the loader. I have noticed a smell of gasoline in the engine oil. Not sure about that. I'm using it to farm vegetables, manage chicken manure, build fence, plow snow, etc. Is there a place where I can purchase one of these "positioners"?. Sorry for the long post. Thanks everybody.

It might be worth mentioning that sometimes it's better to work with the Ferguson system instead of trying to counteract it. At least, you want to be sure to understand the logic behind how it works. For some implements it's ideal. On the other hand, Jeff Oh's design is very simple and a tractor mechanic or any machinist could make you one. Make sure you also have the separate fixed attachment point for the top link so that the Ferguson system is not activated.

Do a search for Zane Thang. He has a web page at my att.net. Looks like $95.00 if you want to purchase rather than build your own. Ford 9N,2N and Fergy TE20,TO20and TO30 use the same unit I believe.

Patrick, for what it's worth I have a new Zane Thang that has never been on a tractor. I got it from Zane a few years ago to use with a hog and never used it. I sold the hog so I have no use for it. If you want it you can have it for half what I paid. Jack

In addition to the Zane Thang, here is another option for purchase:

All about the same price I believe.

i believe he means hooking up your toplink to the tractor like i do. instead of using the rocker connection just hook it to either side next to the big ears.

I just realized that PM isn't working. Just click the email box in any of my posts and it will come up. You need to be in modern view. Jack
