Positive Ground?

Why were the old 2 cylinder tractors positive ground? Also I have forgot how to jump start them?

I have had several positive ground tractors. You hook the cables from the vehicle to be used to jump positive to positive on the vehicle and negative to negative then on the tractor to be started positive to the frame and negative to the positive post on the tractor. Hope that helps. Roy

hook jumper cables normal up to vehicle, then put jumper cable colors to proper terminal symbols on battery, dont worry about the color of the cables on tractor, go by symbols on battery.

Some older tractors and cars were Pos ground, the engineers at that time had a much debated theory that pos ground suffered less corrosion, that has long since been proven false, it makes no difference.

I have long since converted all of mine to neg ground, as I view pos ground as a dangerous oddball in a world that has been 12V negative ground for over 40 years.

If you need to jump start a pos ground machine from a neg ground machine, do not allow the machines to touch and connect your jumper cables POS to POS and NEG to NEG. Try to make that last connection to a part of the tractor engine well away from the battery.

as others have said this is not only wrong but VERY DANGEROUS

Half of the cars and trucks built in 1940 were positive ground.All 6v tractors Ive worked on were positive ground.As a mechanic in the 50s I had to be aware of the difference.Its the present day wanna be mechanics who will get in trouble with battery polarity.
