Post Puller

I have this idea for a t-post/wooden post puller in one. It could attatch to a skid or possibly a tractor. Ive looked online to see any similar product out there but all I see are ones for wooden posts. And the ones I had found for steel t-posts consist of a jack or chain. As where my idea eliminates the chain and the operator never has to leave the seat of the machine. As a result of, you save your back from climbing in and out of the machine and eliminates the use of a second guy to wrap the chain.
Like I said its just an idea I have floating out there and I would love to hear feedback of anykind. Many thanks!

So how does it work? Or is it like the TV show that I saw the other night? A guy looked up some nerds he knew in high school and told them he had an idea for 3D glasses that made every show you watched 3D. They asked him how it works. He said he didn't know. He had the idea, but making it work was what he needed them for.

Thanks for the reply. It works by means of utilizing the boom of the machine to lift it. As far as my idea, similar to the machine you posted about, will "grab" onto the post. But note that the machine you posted has large teeth making it only useful for wooden posts and not utilizing, my idea if you will, for smaller t-posts.

Once again, it shows only pulling trees/ wood product. It does not specify metal or wood posts and they do not show it in use on either. You found the same thing I had when searching the net. All of them I found will pull wood posts and does not support the capabilities (where my idea somes to play) of use on t-posts.

Once again it does not show use on steel t-posts. I run into the same things youve found when looking online, all of them are only shown to be used on trees and wooden posts.

If you're concerned that they would damage a steel post, take some strips of old tire or something and bolt some rubber pads to the jaws to cushion them.

I have seen a piece of steel, with a Vee shape, at the top end, and a curve, at the bottom end, dangling from a chain, you hook it to a loader, and then drop it down , over the post, round, or steel, and it will pull it. Kinda looks like this, < ) , turned sideways!

At the fairground I saw 2 guys using a tractor with loader pulling out a row of steel posts. They had a chain hanging from the loader, guy walking along with the other end of the chain, they went down the line, guy walking swung the slack chain around the post so it went around several times, still holding on to his end, tractor pulled the post, post tossed onto the loader and on to the next.

DiyDave,
My grandpa had a similar post puller made by a black smith, only it was a manual puller, like a jack. It slipped some on smooth U shaped steel posts but was great on T steel posts with the wire support knotches. It also had two hooks to wrap a twisted steel chain around a wooden post.

Pulling posts with a 3/8 chain and loader works well with just one person too. Wrap the chain around the post and carry the loose end over the end from the loader so the loose end is pinched into the post as the loader pulls up. One wrap for wooden posts, two for steel posts gets most of them if the post doesn't break off. I took out many miles of contoured fences in the 1970's when parallel straight terraces and later parallel contour terraces became popular.

Bought my manual puller for $49 from Harbor Freight.
Works fine.

A chain with a slide hook on a boom pole will do it as well.

Been doing it for years. Take a piece of chain, hook it over the bucket on the loader. Pull the loader over the post, so the chsin is hanging straight down, in line with the post. Wrap the running end of the chain around the top of the post three times and over the pulling end about a foot or two below the top. Just hold the running end down, pick up on the loader and the chain will bind itself to the post. It'll come right out. No special tools needed.
