Power cell inspection

How do you know if a powercell is good or bad? I have 2 power cells (the caps) that have alot of small pits in them. The body portion on one of them has a spot in it that looks like it started to melt a small hole, just adjacent to the orifice. The bodies and caps do seem to mate together well, no gap. Also, what is the best way to get them out (the bodies)? I'm going to try the press, again, tonight. Also, when installing the body back into the head do you use any lube? Oh, model 701 b.
Thanks,
Kurt

Kurt - If you go to the Archives on this fourm and type in "Power Cells", make sure you use quotes or you will get some battery information, you will fine a lot of information. I was just their and someone even talks about making a tool to remove them. Good luck.

Kurt,

I lost your email address from when we chatted on this at tractor club meeting last month. My truck is a total black hole some weeks!

To remove the powercell, I just take a 3/8 or so steel ball and place in the cell and come through the injector hole across from the cell with a steel rod and bascially knock them out. I am in town this week and weekend so give me a shout if you want me to stop by and give you a hand with it.
