Power Steering Fluid

The manual on my AC D-14 calls for 4 quarts of 10/30 oil to fill the power steering reservoir. Should I use that oil or use power steering fluid? I am sure the oil referred to in the manual is non-detergent to avoid foaming.

Use 10/30 non detergent, if that's what your manual calls for. My d15 II calls for 5/20 non detergent, so that's what I use.

I didn't know they made multi grade oils in non detergent. In our area non detergent oil is made in straight grade oils like 10,20,30 and 40 weight and hard to find dealer that stocks it..

I don't know that it would be possible to find 10/30 non-detergent oil. Just straight weight oil is getting hard to find. That was why I was wondering. The oil that is in it now has been there for 50 years and I didn't want something that is going to destroy that longevity (smile). That has to be some kind of record for the longest time between oil changes. Thanks for the input.

DETERGENT OIL DOES NOT FOAM ! !..i"m suprised
that such an "old wives tale" still survives, and
that there are people around that are still dumb
enough to believe it.
The term,"detergent" in lube oil refers to the
additives, which are formulated to hold dirt
particles in suspension, till they reach a filter
to remove them, rather than letting them settle
out. In fact, modern "Detergent" oils contain
Anti rust, anti corrosion, ANTI FOAM inhibitors.
Multi weight motor oils were NEVER made in Non
detergent formulas. You should use what your
owners manual tells you to use..modern versions
are an inprovement over what was originally
specified.
