power steering oil

If you have an operator's manual from an early JD 70, it does say to use 10W oil in it. But that was before JD came out with special PS fluid. So now the recommendation is to use the JD PS fluid. That is what the JD dealer put in my 70 when I had the PS over-hauled in about 1988. Unless it leaks, that's what I would use. Al

We used 10W oil in the power steering on "Big John" our 55 Model 70 Diesel and "Vernon" our 56 Model 70.

We now use the Power Steering Oil in both tractors.

Hope this helps.

I only use JD Hy-Guard in my JD 70 and 830. But that is because I have a new JD 6105R and some implements are used on all my JDs. I would use JD Hy-Guard if you have any newer JDs that might share implements. Otherwise, maybe any hydraulic oil might be OK. Al

I do the same for the same reason. With Hy-gard in the 70, the implements with dedicated cylinders can be hitched to the 70D, the 3020 or the 4020 with ease! Been doing that for many years.

Sorry... got side trtacked to hydraulics and apologize for that. You asked of power steering. I've been advised too many times by too many who are or were (JD retirees) paid to know that I had better use nothing but the JD power steering oil & I do exclusively that.

"Big John" the 55 Diesel powers the KRONE 260 baler.

"15" one of the 53 gas tractors powers the KRONE 125 baler.

These two balers are the only "hydraulic" equipment we use.

We use 30W non detergent oil in the power trol of both tractors.

We use Rotella 15W-40 Diesel motor oil in all of our tractors.

Hope this helps.
