I have a M M power unit without an ID plate. Heads have casting GE30F#,cyl.are marked 10A15G and 91N, and crankcaseis marked E151. I have O/M manual that list 283-4A and 403-4A. My question is how do I tell which Power unit do I have and is there a tractor it will fit into. The motor ran on propane and looks like was factory instaled. Thanks for the help. Morgan

The IH motors I work on have two pieces. Block and head. This M M motor has 3 pieces head, cyl. and crankcase. C/C casting # E151 This number is on the right rear corner of the case. Could be what I call a crankcase other might call a block.

I have a Repair Catalog (Parts List) # R-1050D for 283-A4 and 403-A4 Power Units on page 32 it shows 10B150A to be the part number for a 403 Cylinder Block, casting no. 10A150 and on page 33 it shows GE9000F to be the part no for a LP or Nat Gas head for a 403, casting no. GE30F. On page 28 it shows the crankcase part number for a 403 to be 11B1701 with a casting no. of LE5151. My guess is it is a 403-A4. HTH.

Bryce. Thank you for the info. That gives it a 4 and 5/8 in. bore by 6 in. stroke. Now what tractor will this motor fit in. All IH power units will fit ether a tractor or a combine. Thank you again for the help. Morgan

The early G series such as GT or GTA or GTB came with a 403 cu. in. engine. I understand they fit the Us also, but I have heard it is better to use the U crankcase with the long throw crank in it. It should work in any of the tractors that came with a 336 such as 5-Star, M5, M602, or even the M670s. The 283s and 336s both use 5 inch stroke cranks while the 403s use the 6 inch stroke crank. You will need to use the taller 403 blocks with the 6 inch stroke crank. Maybe this will give you some ideas.
