Precision Farming

I hate to go too off topic so Ill ask first if anyone knows of a good discussion board site dealing with precision farming. Im think of taking the leap and getting a mapping and guidance system this spring. Curious on what brands (trimble, raven, outback, etc) are recommended by others. If you all want to discuss here, Id welcome the input. Thanks

Try New Ag Talk, they have a precision forum. Personally I have an Outback S and have been very happy with it.

Outbacks are made just 35 miles from me so thats what most have here, just seem to be more costly than some of the others. Any warranty or tech support problems?

agonline.com has a forum dealing with precision ag equipment. Lots of good info on there. Bought a trimble ez-guide when they first came out and have been very happy with it.

I do not know much about this. I do read the forum at agriculture.com, there are some real smart and nice guys on there. As for being ot, you ain't off topic, you are just asking 50 years early, think of it that way.

My neighbor has the mapping for his fields, and he has the radar and auto sreer in his tractor. He claims that it paid for its self the first year he had it put in. He has this setup in two 300 hp case tractors.

I've used Trimble and John Deere's AutoTrac, and I like JD's MUCH better. The Trimble needs time every morning or when you move fields it needs to sit still to get it's "convergance" kinda like waiting for the satellites to find the tractor. Took nearly an hour at times. The monitor was also too complicated and hard to use. John Deere's was great to use. Hop in the tractor or combine, punch a couple buttons and you're off. I liked the old, very simple, black and white monitor better, but better than Trimble all around. I planted with the Trimble, and field cultivated, chisel plowed, and combined beans with the JD.
