Anyone thought of what they will do when gas and diesel is too expensive to buy?Price of food will be beyond some.Others wont be able to afford heating oil next winter. Some will wait for the new prez to fix everything,{ya,right}.Ive gotguns for hunting and will have a garden this sum which will help. What are you going to do? Hoss

On the back burner in my mind, but can things really get that bad ?....... and on that note, deer and turkey come to mind, then geese, partridge, rabbit etc. Best plant potatoes, hard to see, people may not steal em. Hard to believe that things could even remotely get like that, but at least theres enough walking, flying and or crawling type critters around if need be.

They's gonna be a 'chicken in every pot, a car in every garage' after this election; I'm waitin' for the Fed-er-el guv'mint to take care of me. If we can just get a little more government........especially at the National level.......our problems will be over.

Hoss,

I don't get it! Prices are up on everything, and probably aren't going to go back down. It's irritating and things are tighter in my finances than they used to be.

But at the same time, the economy is booming here in Middle Tennessee. The housing industry keeps flourishing, the medical industry keeps growing, the IT industry sees no end, the GM/Saturn plant was closed for about a year, but with unemployment pay and the lay-off benefit from GM, the employees drew about 80 - 90% of their regular pay without working a day.

Restaurants are springing up like weeds and are always full. Instead of gas stations on every corner, we have banks and drug stores on every corner. There are "Help-Wanted signs everywhere.

I really don't get it. There's seems to be no end to the amount of money that is cirulating around here. If there's a recession, it hasn't landed here yet.

Take all of the credit cards away and stop the goverment from printing more money and make the goverment pay theirs bills like everyone else. Gov is not paying their bills now and they continue to tax. When they do pay bills your taxes are going through the roof as they pay for old programs and new ones. Nothing is free. I think B Clinton is acting more nnalert now that he has made millions for himself rather than takinbg from Gov coffers.

I'll have a garden as usual. History repeats itself. Better days are coming (maybe).
Saw a cereal box at the supermkt. a few days ago. Fewer ounces, same price. That's just how these downturns go.

I believe most of the pressure is on the middle class. Poor people are accustomed to difficult times and I have always felt for them. I think this countrys leadership wants TWO classes of people --Wealthy and Poor. I can remember when my family had one car and no air conditioner, black and white TV and had a difficult time finding money to pay bills and eat. I came from a large family and times slowly got better. Today I could not imagine how I would make it without a central HVAC and a nice air conditioned car. Guess I better get ready because I feel it is on the way for most people. I see on the news where people are doing without a meal to find money for gas. I wonder how many of this country's politicians own oil stock!

If it gets that bad, a lot of people wouldn't be hunting game, more sedentary objects like fenced pigs and cattle. If you shoot back and hit someone and you can't show it was in self-defense, say "howdy" to some significant jail time.

Things will just change a wee bit and carry on.Just purchase what you can afford, what a concept.
People wailed when the stage coaches were replaced by railroads. Stable owners, blacksmiths, tack shops and vet wailed when the car replaced the horse. People wailed when the interstate highway system weakened the railroads. People wailed in the 1970's about the price of fuel and bought foreign econoboxes. People in the 1990's & 2007's bought huge SUV's and pickups, then wailed at the price of fuel.
This too shall come to pass.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling

I'll just keep tightening my belt until I get to the last hole... haven't thought past that, yet. We just continue to get by on less.

'Soylent Green...is people!'
We'll begin to feed on each other- figuratively, anyway. I have already seen an increase in absurd hustles- people trying to get something for nothing, or far more than they deserve. Look for ethics and morals to dive in the dumper- real work is too much like...well, work!

I'm going to install a coal add on unit to my furnace. Then I can burn just about anything for heat. I absolutely refuse to pay 4.11 a gallon for fuel oil. I think 2 cords of wood will heat my house for a season. That's $400.00 for wood opposed to about $3000.00 for heating oil if it doesn't go up any more which is wishful thinking. I too have a garden. Used to can a lot of stuff but don't anymore. Looks like we're gonna have to break out the ole soup stone. God help us all........rw

I've determined that we need to fire the people in state government. They are wasting my money, taxing me for more and jamming it to everyone to line their pockets and take huge increases in their own wages. Looks like we need a young person with no desire for huge wages.

The only difference I see now and the late seventies it that there are more zeros in front of the decimal point. It was tough then and it's tough now. It got tougher then it will get tougher. The good news is it has always got better, if people don't panic this too shall pass

Got a chuckle today, the radio reported that the cost of living went up last month by 2 tenths of a percent. Right. What all are they not counting? The same day gas here jumped from $3.79 to $3.96. Working part time at a NAPA store one of the guys unpacking parts said, "wow, the last time we bought these parts (not long ago--Nippon starter parts) they were $12, now they're $21." Antifreeze is going through the roof. 2 tenths of a percent, yeah, right.

Somethings wrong this time. Its like every time before things got better after a while. This time things arent getting better.Instead of trying to fix things, politicians are actually helping this disaster. Some bunch somewhere is trying to see how far they can push us.I cant believe people putting up with it now.If congress got a few semi loads of mail telling them to fix this or else it would stop.I dont know if the dollar has ever been as low as it is,not that I know of,and there is no excuse for it.It was where the country that won the war didnt have inflation, but this bunch is so stupid they win the war and still have inflation.

Already got wood stacked for the wood stove and there is enough dead still standing for several years so the heat is covered. Work full time more or less for myself, legitimatelty, and have more work than I can handle, not to mention side jobs for cash so money usually isn't a problem. I stop at the stores on the way home from jobs to get groceries, etc so I'm not eating fuel there so that's covered too. All my vehicles are paid for so no car payment to deal with each month. Beyond that, to paraphrase Hank Jr. 'I've got a shotgun, a rifle, and a 4-wheel drive, so this country boy can survive.'
