Proofmeter Gurus!!?

I have a proofmeter that was working fine and then quit. I took it apart and when the gears get to a certain spot it binds and stops. The plastic vertical gear is starting to strip. I can spin it back and forth til it gets to the spot. What's up? I can't see any reason for the binding without tearing into it more and that means possibly destroying it. Any ideas?DON TX

i cant help you with that problem but i can tell you that i am restoring my ford and its geting an electronic tac with an hour meter you can buy one cheaper then a factory proofmeter and they are more practical it sounds like you are in the market for a new proofmeter so you may want to consider it

Who sells these units you're mentioning. I have the same problem. Mine is a typical Chinese inferior product and stopped working at the 7th hour mark.

yes it is a standard hole size for a tach i just bought 6 of them online the other day they havent got here yet but they are around a hundred dollars or more from a parts store or diesel shop 4k tach are made for diesels but the newer ones called programable can be used with any signal input i think i have 2 or 3 of them that are spoken for yet if your interested let me know

Why in the world someone would spend $65 for a not need item, beats me.

My '49 8N has never needed one.

ome people just need more troubles in life, Dunk.
Neither you nor I are worried about the starter cranking speed of our tractors either, are we? (N-board)

If I'm hooking up an implement, it is near idle. If working, it is up against governor limit. What else do I need to know? You know that is how they were designed to WORK.

You are getting on my last leg, where I do something about it, and put a stop to it.

Out of over 10,000 posts, and over 3 years, you are the only one that I have a problem with?
