Propane Prices

Somehow I thought our propane would last a bit longer than it did and I ran out yesterday night. My supplier will only deliver 100 gallons right now and is charging me $3.744 per gallon.

I've never seen it this high in Michigan before.

Shoulda pre-bought.

They filled mine last week it was $1.49 a gallon in Northern,Il. I've heard there is allegedly a shortage, but the attorney general's office is checking in to it.Yah right!I think it's another reason to try to raise prices just like the gas and diesel.

From what I have been hearing your getting it cheap. If you look in a few other forums propane prices are being talked about and some say it is a high a $5 plus a gal

What is your electrical price? Odds are electricity is cheaper than LP at those prices.
Pre-buying only seems to ensure a high price if the market drops after you contract in. Not the other way around.

Very true, I called to have the tank filled last Friday and the MFA man just showed up about an hour ago. First he told me he would only put 200 gallons in the tank and it was $5.00 a gallon. He said he was almost scared to stop at people's houses. He thought it was going to back off a little bit but didn't say much more. I told him thanks and I will pass on $5.00 propane. I am north of old in Missouri.

Filled mine on Jan 2, was $1.92 then, refilled about a week ago & haven't received the bill yet. Talked with the lady that woks at my local Co-op, Friday eve. She said that Propane went up $1.28 that Pm & was at $5.35. This is in north central Ia.

Last summer I pre-bought at 1.49. Wife got tank filled last week and it was 2.49. NE Missouri. Don"t know what propane costs here at work in the West Indies, but diesel is still .90 cents a gallon and regular gas is 1.70 a gallon.

~ 10 years ago, I put an insert in the fireplace to heat the house....Prior to insert, I consumed ~ 700 gallons propane/year heating the home. With the insert, I use < 100 gallons/year. The problem here is cutting/splitting all that woods eats into the tractor restoration time...

I guess I still enjoy going out with old reliable....Partner 5000 Plus chainsaw & eatin' a locust tree!!!

I contracted in June at 1.39 and I just got filled at 1.39.
Hi,Tim stay warm it is 6 degrees at 5:00.

Southwestern Minnesota, last Friday, was in the $5.00 to $5.10 area. Not sure if there was another increase today. Lots of really ticked off LP customers. I have heard the usual excuses including the cold weather and the extra used for crop drying this past fall. The one issue brought up that I read in the Star Tribune a while back involves a pipeline which no longer transports LP gas into Minnesota. That one I will agree with, as it has created a man-made shortage. With regards to the statement about the increased demand due to crop drying, is that I don't think we have had a fall with a wet crop for quite some time, and if we ever did, there is not the infrastructure in place to feed that demand!

It was on our news tonight. The Gas man they interviewed said the truck load he got this week from the manufacturer cost him double of what the last load cost. There blaming it on the cold winter and the Midwest Farmers useing more than expected. They said it was a shortage. In my mind they know you got to have it and they are going to make as much money as possible.

I got filled a couple weeks ago at $1.40 contracted price. It's over $5.00 now here in central Iowa. They are blaming it on a pipeline that's shut down, extra cold weather, and excess used for drying corn last fall. I'm blaming it on crooked politicians allowing the price gouging.

I think Locust was the best burning wood I ever used. My property was full of them..... then I moved to property full of poplar!

Looked into heating sources when I built a house 5 years ago and propane was $3.73. I thought that was too high and was already sick and tired of depending on others for gas/diesel so went with wood with electric backup. Now hearing about 5 dollar propane confirms it. Sorry to hear that its gotten so bad fellas.

Hi Eric, Where are you located? Im in SW MN also. I agree, we havent had a big year to dry crops for several years, and milder winters as well. It is quite puzzling for them to shut off a pipeline up to the midwest....a place where lp IS needed to dry crops....someone isnt thinking. Of course maybe they are...and that is why we are where we are. I do think somewhere someone figured the farmer has money now with higher grain prices...that happened with seed machinery and fertilizer.
