propane vs. racing fuel

can anyone tell me the octane rating of propane, or how it compares to racing gas, 110 or 117 octane. which is capable of making the most power. is propane even rated in octane or is it btu's
thanks nick

Propane is 120 octane rated at 90 btu's,gas 100 btu's, diesel 140btu's per gallon.John Deere raised compression from 6.11 to 1 on gas to 8 to 1 on LP to make up for the lose in btu's.It never gets old or stale like gas.

Hello tumpin pumpkin,
Here are some BTU values per 1 US gallon.
Diesel 130.000 BTU'S at (LHV 36 API gravity)
Gasoline 115.400 BTU'S (LHV)
Methanol 56.600 BTU'S
Ethanol 75.700 BTU'S
Propane 86.650 BTU'S, 1 US gallon = 4.25 Lb.
Octane rating for propane about 110.

The guy said from 1959 to 1980. Tractors with cow poop on them. He's right.
I'd very much like to get into tractor pulling, but I can't shell out big bucks for all the parts. Don't yell at him. He pulled for 20 years, he has plenty of experience under his belt. He picked the right time to get out.
