have any of you had a tank of propane loose its potency or even turn solid I have a tank that is heavy I have had for some time now ran out of gas in my grill hooked it to the grill and hardly any flame out of it. took the adapter out of it and put on another tank and it has good flame and the tank is lighter so less fuel in it but good flame

Possibly the propane mix is very heavy on butane or even pure butane ?? Butane does not porduce much vapor pressure if the temp is cool.

I'm not 100% sure of this but I think that the valve may have a saftey "lockup" that knows when a large volume of gas is flowing. I've had this happen to me and had to shut off the tank,open the grill valve,shut the grill valve then slowly open the tank valve to allow things to equalize then open the grill valve and light it.
Thats my experience.

Propane in tank will not degrade over time, as it is under pressure. Will not solidify at any temperature you want to know about!

True. BTDT. As stated, turn it off and start over. Course the valve could be bad too.

Speaking of propane, one year the pressure relief on my 500 gal home heating tank started leaking.

Propane man said to wait for a cold day when the tank was low and he'd change it for me. I couldn't believe what I saw as he removed the old valve and installed the new one with little vapor escaping.

changed out my 720 LP fill valve on a 30 degree day about 50% in the tank & lost very little.....have won lots of jingles in the last 40 yrs. when I bet someone that I can carry LP in a 5 gal. plastic bucket...have done it many times using liquid line to fill bucket...it will burn about 3 hrs. in a metal bucket [5 gal.]without smoke or ash to keep you warm when servicing farm equip.....take care ...Kent
