Proper rain cap postion

which way is the best way? Backwards to stop tree branches from ripping the muffler off. Forward to blow the exhaust away. or I've seen some sideways.

If you haul a tractor or equipment with a turbo, you need the wind to blow the cap closed so the turbo won't windnmill the dry bearings when the oil pump is not pumping oil to the turbo bushings. Turbos are expensive when they run dry!!

i usually set mine so the exhaust can flow out towards the back as the machine travels or to the side works also

If you haul the tractor it needs to be positioned so the air flow pushes it shut. that way if you get caught in a rain it won't act as a funnel to shove rain down the stack.

Most new tractors now have the curved end on the muffler to keep rain out. I would rather have the curved end muffler over a rattling rain cap. Anyway you choose is acceptable.
