Has anyone ever put a pto in a H before? My H doesn"t have one in it and was think about adding one. I know a guy that put one in his but was curious if anyone else has and how big of a project it would be. Thanks for any help or suggestion. Eric

I have installed pto's on two previous "H"s, and have one in my shop right now that I have collected the kit for. You need the quadrant with the shift lever, the cast rear cover, the pto shaft, gear, and bearing assembly (two different shaft sizes available), the bevel gear that goes on the transmission shaft, a couple of spacing washers, and a gasket or two. I am on the road now without my reference material, so I am going by memory, but it is not much more than a Saturday morning project if you have all the parts at hand. I like to have pto in case I choose to play with the "H" on the genreator, and it makes hooking to my dyno for break-in and tune-ups easier.

...you can read the entire procedure in Field Service Bulletin 96-S, 4/15/39. It covers around a page and half.

The H pto will kick out when it wears.Mine is on my second set of gears and is kicking out.Not a good tractor for PTO work.

No it's not there strong point,,I scaloped a high spot with mine mowing a few years ago with a 5ft 407 mower,,broke the boss in the transmission where the bearing area and the cone gear are,,I bought a trans case with gears and pto for it but never put it in yet, I fixed it up for my son 23 years ago,it's been setting in the barn for the last 8 or 9 years,,I keep thinking he will fix it up again for his son but no one has showed any interest in it,,maybe a 'great' grandson will do it some day,,these things will keep and wait that's for sure
